Big Island Internet Society Has Its First Anniversary

Well today we had the one year anniversary of the Big Island Internet Society. It was great to see so many familiar faces as well as meet those that came for the first time.

Sure Save and Wiki Wiki Mart owner Carl Okuyama spoke about how Sure Save has used search engines over the last 14 years to help bring his company up in search ranks.

Devany Vickery-Davidson and Carl Okayuma talk about "Starts at Home"

Carl also talked to us about his new program that he has started up called Starts At Home which is a program geared towards parents and really helping them develop full relationships with their children.

Lots of new faces in the crowd

There were about 15 – 20 folks that all had different interests in the internet but the one thing we all had a common interest in was the delicious food brought by everyone!

I’d like to thank The Hilo Burger Joint for hooking us up with this pan of steak and sauteed mushrooms!

Mahalo to the Hilo Burger Joint for this pan of Pupu's!

I’m a WINNER in Wiki Wiki Mart’s Twitter Tweepstakes

I mentioned on August 5th that I was going to do everything in my power to win Wiki Wiki Mart/SureSave Market’s Twitter Tweepstakes contest.

I’ve just been informed by @wikiwikimart that I won the grand prize of two round trip tickets to a neighbor island by entering their twitter tweepstakes contest!

Big Island Meet and Greets Getting BIGGER

The 2nd Big Island meet and greet for internet fans and geeks was held this past Saturday at Big Island Pizza.

I started off by going to Wiki Wiki Mart Orchidland and picking up mangoes for the event that Carl Okayama, President of the company, had donated. Well he actually donated them to me, but I forwarded them on to the event.  (Wiki Wiki Mart: Orchidland

Here are the mangoes that I picked up:

I then made my way to Hawaii Nui Brew

Where I met John Walsh the brewery’s head brewer where he was cleaning the heat exchanger.

I then made way to the tasting room where tasting room worker Elsha was busy helping customers.

Once I picked up the beer to bring to the Meet and Greet, I made my way over to Big Island Pizza where they were gracious enough to allow us to use their fridge their to hold the beer.

For the first 15 – 20 minutes as people arrived, we just talked story and introduced ourselves.  Here’s a quick little video of us getting to know eachother.  Pizza’s were arriving left and right and at one point I had two stacked on top of  each other in front of ME!

group talk

After talking story a bit, Big Island Pizza Owner Jim King talked to the group about he created the business from scratch and is in it for the long run.
