Atomic Dreams at the Red Tiki Lounge” is a fast-paced historical fantasy, featuring a transoceanic chase, a race against the countdown, battles against war gods and Godzilla-like sea creatures for control over earth and the heavens.

Award winning author S.P. Grogan (www.spgrogan.com – “Vegas Die” and “Captain Cooked”) introduces the readers to a post World War II watering hole, the Red Tiki Lounge and Bar: a Pacific Oasis of Dreams and Visions, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, American Territory.

Hawaii, 1946.  The goddess Pele needs a hero.  But why did she choose an alcoholic, war wounded ex U.S. Naval commander Hunter Hopewell, to battle fire-breathing dragons and evil gods and save the world?  Maybe, because he’s changing… but changing into what?  Meanwhile, attractive, young Tammi Chen, once a Japanese student and spy, now successful in the black market, but not what she seems, is seeking revenge and has decided to steal an atomic bomb… before it explodes.

Body Glove celebrities were on hand as well as famous Hawaii chef Sam Choy to enjoy the show and the book signing event.

About S.P. Grogan – (www.spgrogan.com)

A resident of Las Vegas NV, Grogan has had a career in writing as magazine editor, and a past Shubert Fellow in Playwriting.  In 2011, his novel, Captain CookedHawaiian Mystery of Romance, Revenge…and Recipes” was an island favorite featuring 25 recipes from the top chefs and restaurants on the Big Island with part of the proceeds of  book sales going to The Food Basket program.

Captain Cooked used GPS in its plotting and the book won a prestigious Ka Palapala Po‘okela award from the Hawai’i Book Publishers Association. The book cover was from a Brad ‘Tiki Shark’ Parker painting which started a friendship and dialogue towards the new novel.

Captain Cooked Treasure Revealed

After four years author S.P. Grogan has revealed the location of the hidden $5,000 Hawaiian war club, where the clues were to be found in his award-winning mystery thriller, Captain Cooked. (www.spgrogan.com)

captain cooked

Captain Cooked (www.captaincooked.com) is the second treasure hunt in the Quest Mystery ™ series where clues lead to a cash prize. The first, Vegas Die, had a hidden dagger worth $25,000.

In the search for the hidden Hawaiian war club, the Lei-OˈManō, with clues within Captain Cooked, treasurer seekers (called Questors) were to use geocaching and metal detectors and search on The Big Island of Hawaiˈi.  Eight ammunition cases also holding clues were hidden throughout the island, including within a lava tube and even at South Point, the farthest most southern tip of the United States.  A highly popular event for family and groups, geocachers (geocaching.com) can still search out the locations of the Captain Cooked caches across the island. No one to the date of the contest closing had found the war club though several Questors did come close.

Location of the treasure (now removed):  On your way to Waipi’o Valley, at a trash dump, under a tire, under an ammunition case (#2), under white coral rocks, is another ammunition case (#8).  For more information on the clues and full answer visit:  spgrogan.com.

Captain Cooked, 2011 winner of the ‘Aloha Across the Sea’ award from the Hawaiˈi Publishers Association, is also a culinary mystery featuring recipes from the top chefs and restaurants on The Big Island with a portion of book sale proceeds to go to The Food Basket, Hawaiian Islands Food Bank.

Captain Cooked can be purchased within the Hawaiian Islands as well at Amazon, Smashwords, and Nook, both as hard cover and E-book.

Author Grogan’s most recent work, not a Quest Mystery, but still as entertaining, is a political action thriller E-book entitled, bin Laden’s Revenge.

Author of “Captain Cooked” – Injured on the Big Island

I had the opportunity to meet the author of “Captain Cooked – Hawaii Mystery of Romance Revenge… and Recipes” S.P. Grogan this past weekend at the Royal Kona Resort where he and the books artist Brad Parker were on hand to do book signings at the Mai Tai Festival.

Author S.P. Grogan

As you can see his left arm is wrapped in a sling and he told me about the adventure that he had here on the Big Island the day before…. and basically what happened is he slipped and cracked a couple ribs and busted up his arm pretty well.

Grogan and his artist Packer were kind enough to give sign this poster for my son!

At least he was still able to write with his right arm

Wordless Wednesday – Captain Cooked Cooking, Borders Cooked

Due to the impending Borders Book Store chain bankruptcy filing this week, Borders stores in Hawaii have had to cancel their highly anticipated author book signing event of Captain Cooked by S.P. Grogan.

“I am extremely disappointed,” said author Grogan, “Especially since the Borders in Kailua-Kona had sold out of all their inventory of Captain Cooked.” It is expected Borders locally will continue to be open and operating as usual after the bankruptcy filing.

I got a chance to review the book back in August

Captain Cooked Book Signing Tour, labeled “Beware of Boiling Cauldrons,” is still scheduled to be at other island locations.  A part of the book sale proceeds is being contributed to the island’s Food Basket program, so the non-profit food bank organization is encouraging fans of island mystery thrillers, as well as good eats, to turn out.

"Watch out for boiling cauldongs", S.P. Grogan wrote inside the copy of my book
