Roseanne Barr to Perform at Kahilu to Raise Funds for Theatre’s Education Programs

Labor Day, Monday, September 7, 7:00 PM, Kahilu Theatre presents a night of stand-up comedy with comedy icon Roseanne Barr as a fundraiser for its education programs.

The Real RoseanneBig Island resident, comedy superstar, award-winning actress, best-selling author, recent presidential candidate, and the original domestic goddess, Roseanne Barr hits the stage at Kahilu Theatre for an evening full of sidesplitting comedy that only she knows how to serve up. This special fundraiser is a gift from Roseanne to the Theatre, as all proceeds from the evening will go towards Kahilu education programs.

After nine years, 224 episodes, four Emmy awards, and countless other accolades, Roseanne is credited with single-handedly changing the medium of situational comedy forever. Her creation and portrayal of “Roseanne Conner” and the Conner family on ABC’s Roseanne, has been hailed as “the most ground breaking kitchen-sink sitcom since All in the Family,” (Entertainment Weekly) adding, “she’s the funniest disturber of peace that we have.”

She began her career as a stand-up comedian, turning her experiences as a wife and mother into a hilarious comedy act that audiences couldn’t resist. She subsequently produced and starred in her own hit sitcom Roseanne, which ran for nine seasons and averaged approximately 30 million viewers each week. The role earned Barr an Emmy Award, as well as Golden Globe, Kids’ Choice, and multiple American Comedy Awards.

In 2013, Roseanne returned to her stand-up roots headlining an exclusive run at the legendary Tropicana Resort and Casino in Las Vegas. She also began blogging actively on her website, www.roseanneworld.com, and she is very active on Twitter as @TheRealRoseanne. Currently, Roseanne can be found on network television as the center judge on NBC’s Emmy Award-nominated series “Last Comic Standing.”

The halls of Kahilu Theatre will surely be full of laughs this Labor Day, as this high profile event is set to raise significant funds for Kahilu’s education programs.

Tickets are $88 / $68 / $48 / $20 and available online at www.kahilutheatre.org, by calling (808) 885-6868, or at the Kahilu Theatre Box Office, at 67-1186 Lindsey Road, Kamuela, HI 96743, Monday-Friday, from 9am to 1pm.

The Theatre is also arranging for free tickets for groups of high school students to come to the last Sunday show, from Kanu o ka Aina, Honokaa High School, HPA High School, Parker School and Kohala High School.  Tim Bostock, Artistic and Managing Director of Kahilu Theatre, explained; “We had offered to several schools to arrange for groups to come to the show free of charge, but by the beginning of this week both of the shows were sold out, just as Makana last Friday sold out.  We want to make good on our offer, as we sincerely believe that Vagina Monologues is a truly educational and inspiring show to see, especially for teenagers.”

The Kahilu cast for Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues includes Roseanne Barr, actress, comedian, writer, television producer, director, and 2012 presidential nominee of the California-based Peace and Freedom Party.

Tickets are priced $25, $20, $15 and $10, and are available from the Kahilu Theatre website www.kahilutheatre.org and the box office, which is open 9am to 12noon Monday to Friday, walk in or call (808) 885-6868.

Roseanne Barr to Perform in “The Vagina Monologues” on the Big Island

On Saturday February 8 at 7:00pm and Sunday February 9 at 2:00pm The Kahilu Theatre and V‑Day Kamuela will present two benefit performances of Eve Ensler’s award winning play The Vagina Monologues.

Last year over 5,800 V-Day benefits were held around the world raising awareness and over $5 million in funds towards ending violence against women. Last year’s Kahilu Theatre production included a cast of political and theatrical stars from the Big Island including Sen. Malama Solomon and Councilwoman Valerie Poindexter – and sold out days before opening night. “Best production of Vagina Monologues ever,” raved a CEO in attendance, “and I’ve seen New York and LA productions for years!”

This year’s cast will include Rosanne Barr, actress, comedian, writer, television producer, director, and 2012 presidential nominee of the California-based Peace and Freedom Party.  Rosanne is also a resident of the Big Island, with a home in Waimea and a macadamia nut farm in Honokaa.  Several new and some returning actresses fill out the cast.  The performance will again be directed by Jane Sibbett, who has now joined the Board of the Kahilu Theatre Foundation.

Staying at the Tropicana in Las Vegas and Coming Away With Money!

Last week I went to Las Vegas for my friend’s bachelor party and we stayed at the “New”  Tropicana Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.

Outside the Tropicana

I say “new” because it’s recently gone through a huge remodel and everyone that I spoke to around the place that were regulars at the place talked about how nice it had become of late.

Tropicana

Big Island resident and famous comedian Roseanne Barr is currently doing shows at the world famous comedy club the “Laugh Factory” at 7pm on many nights.  We went later in the evening and caught some other comics that had us laughing pretty hard.

Laugh Factory

Of course most folks tend to gamble in Vegas and I have to say the Tropicana dealers were especially kind to me.  Especially a dealer named “Tracey S.” that actually seemed more interested in peoples life’s then just bringing in money to the resort.  She really tried her best to explain the game clearly to those that were not very experienced at it and as someone who has lost money in the past do to some sneaky dealers… I appreciate a dealer that is honest about what they are doing!

Chips

They are still in the process of remodeling a restaurant that I have heard will become a buffet.  The pool at the Tropicana has consistently been ranked as one of the top pools on the strip.

Tropicana Pool

I got an excellent rate at the place because my friend had a bunch of rooms reserved under his name for his bachelor party so I’m glad I didn’t have to spend a lot for my rooms, however, when I looked at what the price of the rooms would have cost me… it was pretty reasonable for the time of the year and the location on the strip.

I did pretty good at the tables and I figure that after all of my expenses including airfare, hotel, food and entertainment… I came out about $600.00 bucks ahead for five days.  The real joy was spending time with folks I hadn’t seen in a long time… that was priceless!

Has Roseanne Barr Gone Nuts? This is Too Weird!

Oh my… I think Roseanne Barr has completely lost it or at least gone nuts!

As many folks know, Roseanne Barr now lives on the Big Island and is starting a reality TV show pretty soon.

I wonder about the “reality” that we are gonna see on this show with clips like this that were posted recently!

This stuff is just over the top!

She has admitted that she uses weed medicinally… I have to wonder what else she might be on!

Roseanne Barr Sues Ex-Husband… Oh and a Hilo Book Signing

Yesterday, Roseanne Barr Filed a lawsuit against her Ex-Husband Ben Thomas.

…The comedienne is furious with Thomas, the former bodyguard who was her husband from 1995 to 2002, for an action he filed against her last October.

That’s when Thomas went to court complaining Roseanne was violating the custody agreement for their son Buck. According to Thomas, when Roseanne decided to move to Hawaii a year earlier and wanted to take Buck, 15, with her, she agreed to fly Ben and his new wife over to see him for 10 days each month, all expenses paid…
