Puna News is Back… Back in Time Should I Say? Thirteen Pages and How Many Authors?

Back in June I initially asked what was going on with the Puna News with my post, Puna News… Huh… Another Big Island Newspaper Down the Drain?

A few days later I got a letter from the proprietor of this paper stating this:

Hi Damon,

Yes, I think we have met–at least your name is familiar to me. As to the Puna News–Long story short, the poor economy hit. So, I’m trying to get it together to put on line. Not a blog or anything like that but the regular paper. Smaller sheet (81/2 x 11) so if a reader wants to print it out they can; full advertising, etc. I just need time which lately nobody seems to want to let me have. But it’s close and will be out this month–all things going right.

Well it looks like the Puna News is attempting to make a comeback.

I wished them the best of luck but I question this latest format of using .PDF files to try and spread the “Puna News” so to speak.  .PDF Files are so “old school” and not really news worthy… but so be it.

Best of luck and hope you can provide “NEWS”… and not just ads, astrology, and 13 pages of fluff… and only a few articles/ads to businesses with “REAL NAMES” that you can actually tie an article to!

In truth… If I wanted to… I could put out 13 articles/releases/pages a day on my website… but why go down that slippery slope?

The best thing they have on that… Is Tom Lackey’s Cartoon and a link to his site.

The thing is… Even Lack is faster then the Puna News and he’s already posted a new toon!

Well I can wish them the best with this new format… but I won’t be wasting my ink to publish their paper… I’m not sure why anyone else would.  Ink is much more valuable then this news!

Update on the Puna News… Newspaper

The other day I asked what was going on with the Puna News and I got the following reply from the operator of it:

Hi Damon,

Yes, I think we have met–at least your name is familiar to me. As to the Puna News–Long story short, the poor economy hit. So, I’m trying to get it together to put on line. Not a blog or anything like that but the regular paper. But it’s close and will be out this month–all things going right.

I sent her the following reply… but truth be told… I really don’t think the above methodology will work at all!

Thanks for the clarification,

Best of luck… you do know that a blog can be printed don’t you. Also you can update it at your own will and have ads on it as well.

You can also have reader feed back as well as have multiple folks contributing to it all from their own desks.

It only costs $15.00 for a decent site.

Best of luck.

Damon

Puna News… Huh… Another Big Island Newspaper Down the Drain?

I’m curious what happened to the “Puna News” local newspaper that was published and distributed throughout Puna.

I asked a person who wrote for the “Puna News” about what might have happened to it and I got this response:

“…I think that ***** ****** couldn’t make the news business work…”

Can anyone confirm whether this newspaper has been shut down for good?

Are Big Island Bloggers able to provide news faster and more convenient then a newspaper published once a month?

I have 30,000 page visits a month…  but I do things on my own.  Does anyone know what the monthly distribution of the Puna News was???

And if so… hook me up with some of their advertisers that may have been shortchanged!

Guaranteed my ads are cheaper then any online paper… and I don’t even want to go into stuff that Coders and statisticians will tell you about my site… as I don’t even understand the numbers…

I will just say… Mahalo to all that continue to visit this “Online Trainwreck” as some seem to have endeared it  pfft!

OCD Over TP

I was taught a long time ago to “pick my battles” with people that you love and often times certain things just aren’t worth fighting over.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my wife has Obsessive Compulsion Disorder over Toilet Paper (OCD over TP).

I’m the type of guy that really doesn’t care where my toilet paper is sitting or how it’s sitting on the roll, just as long as there is toilet paper there.

tp 001

I don’t know why this site above sets her off so much.  I can literally hear her screaming at herself (me) about why she has to be the one putting the TP on the roll all the time.

Another thing that irks me a bit, is why is there such a fuss over which way the TP actually sits on the roll?

tp 002

Everyone says that this is the correct way because if the toilet paper had print on it… then the print could be seen.

I’ve heard others argue that it should be like this:

tp 003

I find it funny when I arrive at a hotel room and their is a toilet paper roll there and it has the edges folded like this:

tp 004

I don’t get it?  Is the hotel trying to tell us something?

And what is the deal with putting flowery print on something that your just gonna wipe your butt with?  I understand that it’s to make your bathroom prettier and all, but folks… your wiping your ass with it!

Don’t even get me started on SCENTED TOILET PAPER!
