Big Island Resident Raising Money and Awareness for Multiple Sclerosis

I was honored last year to sponsor Jessica Ferracane in her quest to raise money and awareness for Multiple Sclerosis last year and did so again this year.

I was worried myself at a young age that I might have MS due to a slight curvature in my back (note… I was young and see comments below).  I raised money when I was 12 years old in a 20 hour skate-a-thon that still to this day I remember taking off my skates and seeing blisters on the entire bottom of my feet.

Jessica writes:

…The number of people living with MS increases every hour of every day. This astonishing rate is not going to diminish, nor will it stop, until we’ve found a cure. Research has made some incredible advances recently, but the world can still only offer disease management drugs and therapies to the 400,000 or so people living with MS in America.

I’ve formed my “one-woman” team for the MS Bike Tour because I know that riding 150 miles on the sultry Kohala Coast in August is nowhere near as difficult as confronting a lifetime with MS.

The National MS Society gives us all reason to hope, though. In addition to supporting novel research projects around the globe, they also provide much needed education, programs, and services to everyone who is affected by MS – including the diagnosed, their friends and families, and the healthcare professionals who work with them…
