Hawaiian Music Legend John Cruz to Play Banyan Drive Café

As the summer season is coming to an end the Banyan Drive Café wants you to know that the heat, the sunshine, and good times will continue in Hilo. Hawaiian music legend John Cruz will be coming to Hilo and be performing at the Banyan Drive Café with very special guest Tiana Jennings, beautiful singer and guitarist from the Big Island.

The concert will be a celebration of Hawaiian music in an intimate setting at sunset and will take place on Sunday, August 26 at 6:00 pm in Hilo for $20.00. “I am so excited that a musician of John’s quality will be joining us and bringing his music to Hilo. He is a legend in Hawaiian music and what better way to continue Hawaii’s endless summer then with great music and friends.” stated Performances Director at the Banyan Drive Café David Wallerstein.

From the time he was a young boy growing up in Palolo Valley on Oahu, John Cruz knew he was destined to play music. Whether inside or outside the home, his earliest memories were filled with song. His Hawaiian grandmother had a beautiful voice and sang in church.  His mom loved the Motown sound and had an extensive record collection. His dad played country music and taught John to perform live shows at a very young age. His brothers and sisters were all musically inclined and, along with numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends, they have surrounded John with the gift of music for his entire life.

John has distinguished himself as one of the most talented artists that has ever come from Hawaii. He was named the Best Singer Songwriter by Hawaii Magazine in 2008. This well-earned reputation became even more solidified when he released his long-awaited second album, One of These Days in 2007. It debuted firmly at #1 in Hawaii, #2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and #6 on the Billboard World Chart. The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts gave the CD its highest honor in 2008, by awarding John the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. It delivers more of the warm, heartfelt melodies and passionate, soulful vocals that John’s fans have grown to know and love.

Tickets for John Cruz are $20.00 and dinner reservations can also be made for the evening of the concert. To purchase tickets, get information on concert and to make dinner reservations please call 808-383-3035 or visit the Banyan Drive Café during business hours or purchase at the door the night of the performance 2 hours before concert.
