From the Mayors Office:

Honoka’a Fire station to relocate temporarily

Effective 8 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010, the Honokaa Fire Station will be temporarily relocated due to ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) renovations and the removal and abatement of hazardous materials repairs.   It is hoped that the relocation will be short in duration.

Honokaa Fire Station personnel will be temporarily stationed at a residence located at 45-3279 Mamane Street (Highway 240).  The residence is located on the Hilo side of the permanent station approximately ¼ mile south on Mamane Street .

All emergencies should continue to be routed through 9-1-1.

County Offers Home Repair Loans

The Residential Emergency Repair Program was established by the County of Hawai’i to make low-interest loans available to low-and moderate-income homeowners who are interested in repairing and improving their primary residence.

The RERP loan can be used for roof repairs, electrical and plumbing work, sewer improvements, termite treatment and damages caused by termites or wood rot and the installation of a solar water heating system.

Loans range from $2,500 to $25,000 at 3 percent interest.  Loan payments are deferred for 15 years at which time full payment will be due.  Applicants 62 years or older or special needs, may have 30 percent of the principal balance of the loan forgiven as a grant.
