Dr. James Weatherford Files Nomination Papers for Hawaii County Council District 4 Seat

Hawaii Paradise Park resident Dr. James Weatherford filed his official nomination papers today to run for Hawaii County Council District 4 seat.

He stated the following on his “Public Facebook site“:

Filed the nomination papers today! At long last.
As of today, Fred Blas and myself are the only candidates to file in District 4.
Also submitted for validation (what is hoped to be) the last of signatures for public funding. Will be back at the Elections Office tomorrow afternoon to confirm that. If I then have the 200 total needed, will proceed with paperwork that will get me certified as a comprehensive public funded candidate. Campaign funds will follow within 10 days. Then, it will be all about campaign visibility.

Dr. James Weatherford Announces His Candidacy For 2012 Hawaii County Council

This is to make public my intention to be a candidate for Hawaii County Council, District 4, in 2012.

4th District Hawaii Council Candidate Dr. James Weatherford

My candidacy derives from my passion for and commitment to public service, and the desire to serve this community that has given me so much.

Puna faces many challenges and opportunities in the coming years. It would be an honor to serve as County Council member for this community, to work on these challenges, and to help Puna realize the opportunities that are possible.

My campaign will neither solicit nor accept any private campaign contributions and will be funded solely from the Hawaii Election Campaign Fund.

I look forward to discussing constituent concerns and growing a common vision for Puna during the campaign and when in Council.

Dr. James Weatherford Announces His Candidacy for County Council District 5 Seat in 2010

I just noticed the following comment on Big Island Chronicle by Dr. James Weatherford:

I’m going to do it.
Trying to get something out of yesterday (after all, it was a long day and costly one for the taxpayer), I cite these two statements:

“People need to have different opportunities to serve.” J Yoshimoto
“I have just as much right as anybody else.” E Naeole

So, with that, I intend to be a candidate for the District 5 County Council seat.
After all, people need to have different opportunities to serve and I have just as much right as anybody else.

The few people I have talked with so far have been encouraging. One, whose opinion I have especial respect for, said, “YEP!” I should ‘come out’ now.

I happened to catch Dr. Weatherford a few months back at a zero waste meeting and this is what he had to say to the question “What does zero waste mean for Pahoa”.
