The Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby league was started in June 2011 by Paradise Roller Girls with approximately thirty girls, ages 7-17. Practice is held in Hilo at the Wainaku Gym, coached by a dedicated group of Paradise Roller Girls’ skaters and referees. “Playing roller derby is a very athletic sport that develops endurance, flexibility, core strength, positive attitudes and self confidence “says Big Island Babes President, Hallie Adolf. The Babes provide girls with a healthy and fun way to exercise and builds self-esteem. They provide a safe environment free of drugs, alcohol and tobacco; and enforce the use of all required safety equipment. Junior Derby also celebrates individuality, does not discriminate, and strives to provide a supportive environment at all times.

Big Island Babes Junior Roller Derby is open to all girls, ages 7-17. The Babe’s next 4-week rookie bootcamp will begin June 6. Visit for information and requirements.

Please join us at The Hilo Civic Center on May 19th to support these young athletes, and the Neighborhood Place of Puna. Information can be found at or at
