This is pretty cool.  An announcement went out on Twitter from someone whom I’ve been following for quite some time:

I’m looking to invite 3 of the top bloggers on Oahu to participate in a major press conference next week. Got any recommendations? Pls DM me” (DM = Direct Message)

I informed the person that I wasn’t from Oahu but would be there on Friday and Saturday for something else I will be doing.

They then informed me that the following was happening next week and that they were looking for a few bloggers to cover the press conference that will be happening at the end of it:

“Senior military officers of 22 nations will gather in Hawaii next week for the 12th annual Chiefs of Defense Conference (CHOD), which is scheduled to run Oct. 26-29…

…Nations attending this year’s conference include: Australia, Bangladesh, Brunei, Cambodia, Canada, France, Indonesia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Maldives, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Republic of Korea, Thailand, Tonga, Vietnam, and the United States…” More here – U.S. Pacific Command Blog

SAVU SEA (Oct. 22, 2009) - Side boys render honors to the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste Xanana Gusmao aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD 6). Sailors from the Bonhomme Richard Amphibious Ready Group (ARG) and embarked Marines from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit are participating in Marine Exercise 2009, a multilateral exercise that promotes cooperation through civic action programs and training with the Timor-Leste and Australian militaries. They invited me to attend and I initially accepted, however, due to the logistics of getting over there, switching my flights, going from one hotel to another, transportation, etc… I today declined the invitation.

*UPDATE: Logistics have been worked out and I will be attending after all!

PACIFIC OCEAN (Oct. 22, 2009) - An F/A-18F Super Hornet assigned to the Diamondbacks of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 102 prepares to land aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington (CVN 73). I really appreciated that they thought highly enough of my blog to invite me to such a prestigious thing… I just wish the logistics would have work out a bit better… but I’m glad they are working out in the long run.
