Volcano Waterspouts

Amazing footage of “waterspouts” that develop as hot lava, entering the ocean, produces steam that rises and begins to rotate. Footage at 0:43 showcases a 1993 vortex including zoomed-in details of the base. Technically, these are not waterspouts at all, since true waterspouts connect to cumuliform clouds; but the principle of rotation is similar, and so the terminology is often applied. Please note that all footage was shot with a telephoto lens; standing anywhere near an eruption entering the ocean is extremely dangerous, so the videographers are actually quite far away.
