The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts (HARA) Presents the 2011 Na Hoku Hanohano Awards

The Na Hoku Hanohano Music Festival and Awards are open to the public and will take place primarily at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

The Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts (“HARA”) is proud to present the Na Hoku Hanohano Music Festival (“NHHF”), May 26-29, at the Hawai‘i Convention Center.  The exciting calendar of events is open to the public (see ticket information, below), and includes an opening event, unique workshops, the Lifetime Achievement Awards, and, of course, culminates in the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards on May 29th.  Kama‘aina and student rates are available for the workshops, and there is also a Kama‘aina rate for the Lifetime Achievement Awards luncheon on May 28th.

•  Workshop Course 1: Music…The Business
This course set outlines the business side of being a recording artist/professional musician. It offers pointers and information for beginners as well as insight for established artists.

•  Workshop Course 2:  Manufacturers
We’re very happy to welcome a number of manufacturers both from here and abroad. These represent some of the biggest brand names in the music industry.

•  Workshop Course 3:  Extended Study
Not fitting in the conventional 50 minute time slot, we’ve added a ‘extended’ study set of workshops. Workshop 3 focuses on Hard Disk recording, Composition, songwriting and arrangement, and a storytellers session featuring some of the icons of the industry.

•  Workshop Course 4:  Hawaiian Language/Haku Mele
In order to give enough time to learn more about Hawaiian language usage, how to compose in Hawaiian as well as individual/group original composition review, we’ve created this extended series of workshops.

The instrumentation workshop is broken out by specific instrument/voice categories.

•  Workshop Course 2:  Music… the Business II
A continuation of Friday’s Music, the Business workshops. It offers pointers and information for beginners as well as insight for established artists

•  Workshop Course 3:  Extended Instrumentation
Our extended workshops for instrumentation provides a ‘201’ level instruction, tips and performances. For musicians that know the basics, or for fans of these performers.

The 34th Annual Na Hoku Hanohano Awards is sponsored by Hawaiian Airlines (www.hawaiianairlines.com), and will be telecast live on KFVE.  The Awards honor the best of Hawai‘i’s recording artists in 26 categories, and features exciting performances.

The schedule for the Na Hoku Hanohano Awards will be, as follows:
3:30 p.m.   Doors Open
4:00 p.m.   No-Host Cocktail Reception
5:15 p.m.   Dinner
5:30 p.m.   Pre-Telecast Program
7:00 p.m.   Show and Live Television Broadcast

The theme of this year’s awards show is “Our Music, One Heart, Our Hawaii.”

“The theme captures the thought that the Hawai‘i Academy of Recording Arts celebrates the excellence of commercially recorded music of and by Hawai‘i’s music recording artists, and fully conscious of the economic growth and sustainability of Hawai‘i’s music industry,” said Ku‘uipo Kumukahi, HARA President.  “We hope to see everyone interested in Hawai‘i’s music and the industry at all of the Na Hoku Hanohano Music Festival events.  Our mission is to preserve, perpetuate and promote Hawai‘i’s music and recording industry.”
