Lawmakers to Host Informational Meeting to Provide Updates on Ke’ehi Boat Harbor Recovery Efforts

Senator Suzanne Chun Oakland (D13- Sand Island, Kalihi, Liliha, Nu’uanu, Pauoa, Pu’unui) and Representative Joey Manahan (D29- Sand Island, Mokauea, Kalihi Kai, Kapalama) have scheduled a meeting for the public to receive updates on the amount of damage caused by the recent tsunami and the ongoing recovery efforts, as well as the pier improvements recently completed, in progress, and being planned.

The meeting will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 5-6 p.m. at the Ke’ehi Boat Club (4 Sand Island Access Road).

Representatives from state organizations who will be in attendance include Ed Texeira, State Civil Defense; William Aila, Director of the Department of Land and Natural Resources; Ed Underwood, Small Boat Harbor Administrator; Meghan Statts, Oahu District Administrator; Carty Chang, Land Division, Engineering Division; Eric Yuasa, DOBOR Engineering Branch, and Sen. Suzanne Chun Oakland and Rep. Joey Manahan.

“What we do in the aftermath of a natural disaster is just as important as what we do in responding to it,” said Rep. Manahan. “We should evaluate the effectiveness of our reactions and responses to see if we can improve our preparations for another disaster.”The Ke’ehi Boat Harbor community is invited to share their concerns and to give feedback and make recommendations for future improvements based on their experience during the recent tsunami.
