Census Worker Confirms Dropped Trespassing Case

I just talked to Russell “Jay” Haas and he has confirmed that the trespassing case against him for doing his census duties has been dropped.

He is planning a civil suit against the county and he spoke of fear and/or retaliation against him from officers on the island if something were to happen again.

  1. Refusing a to receive a census form is a crime? I would love to be in court during that trial.

  2. Was – is there any mention of charges against the Police Officer who refused the census forms in the first place?

He should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law if he did not comply with the census laws.

    • Part of the deal as I understand it… is that all HPD officers will undergo Census training so that they are more sensitive if a situation like this arises again.
