STOLEN… From the HILO AIRPORT!!!

I can’t believe with post 9/11 security that someone can blatantly get away with stealing a car from the Hilo Airport w/out having anyone notice anything.

"Our beloved manny was stolen from the airport parking lot either tuesday late or wednesday. this car is so unusual , someone might see it. police think it would be hard to get it off island, even if they repaint it. it is bright turquoise and looks like a combination vw bus and pickup truck, with the bed gates down looks like a vw flatbed truck. it was made this way and we constantly had offers to buy it. please keep your eyes open for our car, been in our family for years."

If anyone has seen this rare car… please contact the email in the picture below.

It’s very distinct:

"...they said it was the first car ever to be taken from the "secure" parking. they are reviewing all their tapes. yes, (we) left the parking stub in the car on the dash as they tell you too and they used it to get out. they have retrieved the stub and are dusting for fingerprints. they had a 2 or 3 day head start, it might already be off island but the ports have also been notified. We are trying to get it home.. my email is lsawyer29@hotmail.com ..."

  1. That’s such a cool auto! Why don’t you post on all the islands “Craigslist”?

  2. Brazen. Hopefully they don’t get some bright idea about “chopping” it and ruin it permanently. My uncle used to use those to deliver eggs from his farm. Very handy vehicles…wish VW would make them again. My advise would be to post up at walmart or something…even just in the middle of road between Kea’au and Hilo. They’re bound to drive by sooner or later. Even if they do try to add a rear end on it and disguise it as a VW bus you’ll still be able to tell it’s been modified. I wonder what they plan on doing about the license plate/registration….Anyway, good luck, hope you find them.

  3. It may be hard to ship a vehicle LEGALLY, but organized thieves could ship it off island using the same infrastructure whereby illegal fireworks are trafficked…

  4. Wait, left the stub on the dash “as they tell you to?”

My whole life I’ve been warned to never, never do that.

    So, I’m surprised.

  5. I can believe getting it out of the parking lot. Security not to sharp. As for getting it off island, I don’t think its possible without the correct paperwork. I’ve shipped my own car inter-island several times, and its hard enough if you own the damn thing! You have to have the registration, insurance, ID, and sign off for it to leave, then you have to sign off to pick-it up with ID that matches the registration, or have a signed, notarized letter with a copy of the recipients ID. No, didn’t used to be that hard, but as of 2008, thats what I had to do.
