How Cool is This… Damon Tucker: Featured Blogger

I’m not gonna beat around the bush… I’m blushing a bit that Social Media extraordinaire Jasmine Guevara featured me as her first “Featured Blogger” on her site “Community Connect“.

I met Jasmine through Twitter for her love of coffee… as you can tell by her Twitter “Alias” @coffee tweets.

I later bumped into her on Oahu a few weeks later when I was doing some other stuff up on Oahu.

While folks like me just love to blog for fun… folks like her get to use her social media skills for a living!

Mahalo Ms. Guevara for featuring me on your blog!

Maybe some day, someone will see the value in blogs and I’ll get paid for what I do!

Mayor, Council, Departments Move to New County Building

The Old County Building

From the Mayors Office:

The Office of the Mayor, Hawai‘i County Council, Office of the County Clerk and six County departments are moving into the newly renovated Hawai‘i County Building at 25 Aupuni Street this week.

The County building has been out of commission for normal County services since 2006 when the first phase of the $25 million renovation project was begun on the 43 year-old structure.

The Office of the County Clerk will be on the ground floor of the newly renovated building along with the departments of Research and Development and Finance. The County Council chamber, Council members’ offices and the Reprographics division also will be on the ground floor.

Located on the second floor are the Office of Information, the Mayor’s office, Immigration, Office of Elections, and Fire Administration. Finance and the Office of the County Clerk will be located on the first and second floors of the building. The county Legislative Auditor, however, will remain in offices at the Ironworks Building.

Telephone numbers will remain the same for all departments except Fire Administration. The new telephone number for the Fire Administration is 932-2900. The Fire Prevention Bureau’s telephone number is 932-2912.

Offices in the new building will be opening on a staggered schedule as they move in this week. All offices are expected to be moved into the newly renovated building by Monday.

The public is asked to kokua with patience and understanding during the transition process as some disruptions of service may occur.

BJ Penn in the Olympics, Why Not… St. Pierre is Thinking of It

So George St. Pierre has announced that he’s thinking about turning out for the Canadian National Wrestling Team for the 2012 Olympics.

I’d love to see BJ Penn turn out for US Judo team for the 2012 Olympics.

Let’s take a look back at what he did when he was younger in Judo to a black belt when he was just learning the sport.

New Farmers Market to Open in Upper Puna

Hilo Coffee Mill

Media Release:

Plans are underway to establish a new farmer’s market in Mountain View at the Hilo Coffee Mill on Saturdays.

The new “Market at the Mill” will be held at the Hilo Coffee Mill farm and is scheduled to start Sat., Dec. 5, 2009 — a significant convenience for local residents and visitors of the agriculturally rich Puna District.

The market will feature Hawai`i grown fruits, vegetables, flowers and other Hawai‘i-grown farm and value-added products.

“We want to showcase locally grown items and give our local farming community another revenue stream especially in these economic times. In addition, it promotes the purchase of locally grown items and sustainable agriculture. Having a market in Upper Puna / Mountain View can help save money on gas, groceries and entertainment. It can build community spirit.” said Jeanette Baysa, co-owner of Hilo Coffee Mill.

Market days are initially scheduled for Saturdays. Hours are tentatively set for 7 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Vendor space is limited. Anyone interested in participating should call Kathy Patton or Jeanette Baysa at Hilo Coffee Mill, (808) 968-1333.

Hilo Coffee Mill is conveniently located on Highway 11, the beautiful Volcano Heritage Corridor, midway between Hilo and Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
