FBI Blogs Applies for Knight Foundation Grant

As many of you folks may know… I’ve been running the FBIBlogs.com site for free of charge and with no compensation… and enjoying doing it.

However, I realized that all of us bloggers can provide a real service to the Big Island and I just wanted to let folks know that I have applied for a $50,000 Knight Foundation Grant “You Invent It, We Fund It” Grant.

If I were to get this grant… I’m pretty sure I could do a lot of things that our regular Big Island Newspapers can’t provide.

However, I also encourage others from the Big Island  that might want to apply for something like this to apply as this could do a lot for our island… they do have $5 Million they are pumping into this project.

Getting the news and information we need to improve our communities is more important than ever. Send us your project. We seek innovations that use new or available technology to distribute content in local communities. Take part in the $5 million annual Knight News Challenge contest. Anybody worldwide can apply.

There are three rules to follow to apply to the 2010 Knight News Challenge:

  1. Use digital, open-source technology.
  2. Distribute news in the public interest.
  3. Test your project in a local community.

  1. This reads well. Do you write for any other blogs? Nicely done, Steven.

  2. What “open source” technology have you developed, or do you plan to develop should you receive a grant? In other words, I don’t see how your community blog/aggregator satisfies the #1 rule of the Challenge. ??

    Good luck, anyway.

    • I am currently working with a “Major” Software Engineer on the FBI Blogs. In due time FBIBlogs will be transformed into something much different then it is.

I’m very fortunate that this person likes what I’m trying to do and is doing it for free…. However, if I could pay him… I would.

  3. Good Luck to you Damon! You DO provide an invaluable service to the community. I especially appreciate your even-handed approach to people and topics. Thank you.
