It happened around 7:30 p.m. on Kuakini Hwy near Lako St.

The infant’s mother, who is in her 20s, and the infant were taken to Kona Community Hospital, where the baby later died. The woman is in critical condition. No one in the pick-up truck was injured.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash.

  1. This is terrible; poor baby.

It’s so easy to take turns being the designated driver. So, so sad that more people don’t do so. My son is 16 and working on getting his license. The other guy, possibly drinking, scares me more than HIS driving ability.
