Lingle Nominates Former Student Regent Michael Dahilig as UH Regent At-Large

This is strange:

Governor Linda Lingle today announced she has nominated Michael A. Dahilig to fill the remaining University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents at-large seat. His name will be submitted to the Hawai‘i State Senate for its advice and consent.

I find this strange because he just submitted a resignation letter from his student regent position 6 weeks ago:

Letter lifted from Capsun's Corner, Click letter to see his breaking news earlier in the year on this.

I blogged earlier that this was the Student Regent that supported UARC despite the student wishes:

…He said personally for him it came down to a question of academic freedom. He said the three-year moratorium on classified research was “a fair compromise.” Ultimately, he said, “the pros outweighed the cons,” so he voted for the military research program…

…He said that while he is “not 100% proud” of the vote, that he felt he “tipped his hat” to the overwhelming student opposition by voting yes with reservations…

Non-Profit Entity Proposing to Construct and Provide Water for Department of Hawaiian Home Lands

I was just looking at the agenda of the upcoming Department of Water Supply Water Board Meeting that is coming up on January 27th and noticed the following:

5) PUNA:

Na Kupa‘a O Kuhio (NKK), a non-profit entity, is proposing to construct and provide water for the Department of Hawaiian Home Lands’ Makuu subdivision in the district of Puna.
The proposed agreement specifies the number of water credits and percentage of Facility Charges credits they will receive for the construction of the water system. The water system will consist of a deepwell, pump and meter, reservoir, and transmission mains.

RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the Water Board approve the “Water Credits Agreement, Makuu Hawaii,” and that either the Chairperson or the Vice-Chairperson be authorized to execute the Agreement subject to review and approval by Corporation Counsel.

There are lots of other proposals planned for this meeting. The above one is the only one that caught my eye in particular.

Hele-On Bus Rider Killed After Getting Off Bus on Highway 130

A Hele-On bus rider suffered fatal injuries today when he was struck by a pickup truck after exiting the bus.

Police said Carlos Caraballo, 51, of Pahoa, got off the bus around 11:49 a.m. at the intersection of Route 130 and Shower Drive in the Puna District.

The victim walked in front of the bus and out into the highway, where he was hit by a 1992 Nissan pickup truck traveling west on Route 130. Caraballo was then thrown into the front end of a 2006 Mini Cooper that was stopped in the left-turn lane on the highway.

The driver of the pickup truck, a 43-year-old Pahoa man, and the driver of the Mini Cooper, a 60-year-old Ninole woman, were not injured.

Caraballo was pronounced dead at 12:33 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center.

Anyone with information about the crash should call police officer Clarence Davies at 961-8118.

There have been two traffic fatalities on the Big Island so far this year, compared with one a year ago.

One More Lie to the Parenting “Black Book”

I think most parents know that we are liars when it comes to raising our kids.

Santa Claus, Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, etc.

I found a new one for me today.

I mentioned earlier how my son came down with tonsillitis.  His pediatrician put him on a liquid pediasure diet and meds until the swelling in his throat goes down.

Here lies the problem… my son kind of picked up some of my eating habits and one of those things… is that if you don’t like something… you’re not gonna eat it no matter how much everyone tells you it’s good.

I picked up some of the Strawberry flavored Pediasure as I was coming home from the Doctors.   The buggahs are like $16.99 for a 6-pack of little bottles.

So when I got home, I cracked open the Pediasure and I made the fatal mistake of calling it “Pediasure”.

My son doesn’t know what “Pediasure” is, but he sure made up his mind really quickly that he didn’t like and WAS NOT going to have it.  I got pretty frustrated because as any parent knows, they only want their child to get healthy.

He hasn’t been eating at all in the last 30 hours other then a little soup here and there so it’s really important the doctor said to make sure that he gets the Pediasure in his system because that will at least provide all the vitamins and nutrients that he’s missing out on cause he literally can’t eat right now.

It is kind of weird that when you feel bad, or have a headache, or a soar throat… that know matter how much you think you should eat… you don’t really have an appetite.

So here comes the lie.  I know my son will drink Nestles Strawberry Quick… so what did I friggin do… after he woke up from his nap, I told him I went to the store and picked up some Strawberry Quick.

Sure enough… The buggah was drinking it down like it was nothing.

The lies we tell our children… they aren’t all bad are they?

Superferry Chronicles… Talk With the Authors – The Video(s) mentions that an incident took place today on the superferry.  It’s not for sure what happened just yet as far as I can tell.  Could a whale have been hit?

I just noticed this series of videos about the recent book signing of the Superferry Chronicles over on Maui.

Part 5:

I just returned home from the hospital.

Yesterday, the VOG was so bad that my son woke up coughing and wheezing.

Today, he woke up and his throat was almost completely shut and I could see what looked like an infection in his throat.

Thank god it’s only Tonsillitis and w/ some medication and rest he should be feeling better in a couple days.

Pahoa Inauguration Ball Videos

Here are the videos that I shot at the Inauguration Ball.  I only have a small little camera so the quality is not the greatest.  BIVN will be posting a video of the ball too, I believe, as I saw him there.

I’d also like to apologize to Simon Greywolf who did the sound for the musicians tonight.  My videos do not give justice to the great sound that the groups provided.

I really need to get a better camera!

Well the lighting wasn’t the greatest in there either.
