Quote From Former Employee of New Department of Public Works Director

I normally wouldn’t quote an “anonymous” source, but this person is ohana so I can trust them and they wished to remain anonymous when telling me this.

“Warren Lee came over from Oahu to help fix the way things were running at HELCO…. and HE DID!”

One Response

  1. I can’t believe anyone thinks Helco is “fixed.” (not talking rates here) Helco is the most unresponsive utility I have ever experienced. The former Public Works Director could not get them to answer questions or do anything. Helco refused to share their priorities for projects to make repairs.

The intersections near Kawaihae are notorious for their lack of safety. The State has to replace the entire guard rail from time to time. I mention this because the time before that the car that went into the guard rail, took out the light pole at the same time. It’s a dangerous place not to have a light. County Public works got the pole back up in a couple of days, but Helco would not turn on the electricity for over a month. Without explanation despite inquiries from the Mayor’s administration, Public Works, and citizen groups.

Helco is currently refusing to work with a solar power developer in Kohala, despite the law requiring them to do just that. They are literally going to take it court, hoping everyone will forget about it.
