Mickey Mouse 2… Hawaii Schools 0

The Honolulu Advertiser has noted that questions are now being raised over the recent Florida trip taken by Educators and teachers from June 22 – June 25th of this year. I know a teacher who personally went on this trip this year.

What the Advertiser doesn’t mention… Is that this is the Second Year in a Row that certain Educators have been given this trip!!

The money spent on these past TWO years trips to Disney World could have made up for the athletics budget.

*update* Here is the letter from Lingle requesting to know more information on this trip.

Is a Billy Kenoi Smear On?

I just noticed someone posted a link to the following web address.

At this site, it is very obvious to me that they are just trying to put on a smear.

About a week ago, a friend of mine received a packet of information regarding an altercation involving Hawaii County Mayoral Candidate, Billy Kenoi. After reading the packet, he then passed it on to me…..

A little information about this domain I came across through a simple whois search…

Smears are ugly things to do. I don’t doubt the content of the site, I wonder about the timing of it.

*Update* It looks like Hunter Bishop has found out this cat tried to use a school as the address!

“That is a question I refuse to answer” Ken Goodenow

It’s disappointing that the upcoming Mayoral forum will be having someone that a recent Stephens Media-commissioned survey said “only 2 percent of those polled said they would vote for him (HIGA)……

Asked whether the association would have invited Higa to the upcoming debate if it had knowledge of the recent poll’s results, Goodenow said, “That is a question I refuse to answer.”

I think we all know what that means…. No, he probably wouldn’t have invited him had he known that although Higa has spent more money, his popularity has tanked.

I love it when people twist words around. I’m gonna use that one more often ;)

1 Out of Approximately 100 People at Community Meeting in Puna Want More People to Move to Puna

At a recent community meeting held at the Pahoa Community Center, about the recent amendments to the Puna Community Development Plan (PCDP), elected District 5 Council Lady Emily Naeole was the recipient of oral testimony both for and against the PCDP.

A testifier posed the following question to the overflow crowd:

“How many of you people in this room want more people moving to Puna”.

The response… only 1 person in the entire room wanted more people moving to Puna.

This meeting was filled with residents of Puna as well as other Candidates for the 2008 election, and I hope that they will listen to the people of Puna.

It is funny how once we all get here… we all seem to want Puna to ourselves. ;)

Well Except Beachboy :P

Of course people in tourism industries want more people coming. I’m from an Education background and I see our schools suffering as more students come in and less money is available for our schools.

But how many people in PUNA rely on tourism to provide for their families?

Geothermal Industry Continues to Grow

Here in Hawaii, we could really benefit by using Geothermal more to it’s potential.

A survey released by the Geothermal Energy Association (GEA) shows continued growth in the number of new geothermal power projects under development in the United States, a 20% increase since January of this year.

However, this article states that there are TWO Geothermal plants in Hawaii. Where is the second one located, or being built, or is this a typo in the article?

….The August 2008 results by state are: (State: Number of Geothermal Projects/Megawatts) Alaska: 5: 53 – 100 MW; Arizona: 2: 2 – 20 MW; California: 21: 927.6 – 1036.6 MW; Colorado: 1: 10 MW; Florida: 1: 0.2 – 1 MW; Hawaii: 2: 8 MW….
