Police and emergency crews on the Big Island are responding to a crash just south of Pahala Wednesday morning.  Reports from the crash scene are that four people were killed in the crash…

The Hawaii Police Department released this Nixle alert awhile ago:

Highway 11 at the 54-mile marker (just south of Pahala) is closed to traffic in both directions due to a traffic accident. The road is expected to be closed for two hours or more.

Highway 11 remains closed in both directions at the 54-mile marker (just south of Pahala) and is expected to remain closed until at least 3 p.m. due to a traffic accident.

Update the StarAdvertiser has now reported the following:

Four people were killed and a child was critically injured today in a head-on vehicle collision near Pahala, a Hawaii County fire department official said.

Community Meeting to Discuss Police-Related Concerns Scheduled in Pahala

Media Release:

The Hawai’i Police Department will hold a community meeting on Wednesday, March 17, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Pāhala Community Center.

The purpose of the meeting is to allow the public to meet the Police Department’s command staff and to discuss police-related concerns with the police chief and commanders who oversee police operations in the Ka’ū District.

The Ka’ū event continues district community meetings, which are rotated throughout the eight police districts on the Big Island. To aid police commanders in focusing on specific community concerns, they ask that participation in this meeting be limited to persons who live or work in the Ka’ū District.

Those interested in participating but unable to attend may e-mail their concerns or comments to copsysop@hawaiipolice.com.
