Bail Set at $110,000 for Man Who Attempted Two Robberies in Hilo

Hawaiʻi Island police have charged a 37-year-old man in connection with two attempted robberies on Wednesday.

The attempted robberies in Hilo occurred at a gas station and a recycling center.

At 11:45 p.m. Friday (August 2), Kris Villasista of Honomū was charged with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle and two counts of attempted robbery. His bail was set at $110,000.

He is being held at the Hilo police cellblock pending his initial court appearance scheduled for Monday (August 5).

 

Big Island Police Arrest Man After Two Attempted Robberies in Hilo

Hawaiʻi Island Police have arrested a man in possession of a car that was used in two attempted robberies in Hilo on Wednesday.

At about 11:40 a.m., a man armed with what appeared to be a firearm attempted to rob the cashier at a gas station on Kaumana Drive. He left without getting any cash. The cashier was not injured.

Approximately 20 minutes later, the same person attempted to rob an employee at a recycling center off Waiānuenue Avenue but again was unsuccessful. The employee was not injured.

The suspect fled in a white Suzuki Samarai that had previously been reported stolen.

At approximately 3:20 p.m., while conducting checks in the Honomū area, officers located the car at a Honomū residence. Kris Villasista, 37, of Honomū was arresting for unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle. He was taken to the Hilo Police cellblock while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.

 

Big Island Credit Union Robber Turns Himself In

Hawaiʻi Island police have arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery Thursday afternoon (May 30) at a credit union in Pepeʻekeo.

Investigation of the 1 p.m. robbery at the Hāmākua Coast Community Federal Credit Union led to the identity of a suspect, 37-year-old Kris R. Villasista of Honomū.

While police were conducting an islandwide search for Villasista, he turned himself in at the Kona police station at 6:05 p.m. Thursday. He was arrested on suspicion of robbery, theft and terroristic threatening. He was then moved to the Hilo police cellblock, where he remains in custody while detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continue the investigation.
