The Kahilu Gold Concerts also provide the Theatre a platform to showcase its education programs, as students from the Kahilu Performing Arts Classes (KPAC) will perform routines during both concerts.

The Makana Gold Concert will take place Friday, February 10 at 6 pm. The John Cruz Gold Concert will take place Sunday, March 12 at 6 pm.

Atomic Dreams at the Red Tiki Lounge” is a fast-paced historical fantasy, featuring a transoceanic chase, a race against the countdown, battles against war gods and Godzilla-like sea creatures for control over earth and the heavens.

Award winning author S.P. Grogan (www.spgrogan.com – “Vegas Die” and “Captain Cooked”) introduces the readers to a post World War II watering hole, the Red Tiki Lounge and Bar: a Pacific Oasis of Dreams and Visions, located in Honolulu, Hawaii, American Territory.

Hawaii, 1946.  The goddess Pele needs a hero.  But why did she choose an alcoholic, war wounded ex U.S. Naval commander Hunter Hopewell, to battle fire-breathing dragons and evil gods and save the world?  Maybe, because he’s changing… but changing into what?  Meanwhile, attractive, young Tammi Chen, once a Japanese student and spy, now successful in the black market, but not what she seems, is seeking revenge and has decided to steal an atomic bomb… before it explodes.

Body Glove celebrities were on hand as well as famous Hawaii chef Sam Choy to enjoy the show and the book signing event.

Hawaiian Music Legend John Cruz to Play Banyan Drive Café

As the summer season is coming to an end the Banyan Drive Café wants you to know that the heat, the sunshine, and good times will continue in Hilo. Hawaiian music legend John Cruz will be coming to Hilo and be performing at the Banyan Drive Café with very special guest Tiana Jennings, beautiful singer and guitarist from the Big Island.

The concert will be a celebration of Hawaiian music in an intimate setting at sunset and will take place on Sunday, August 26 at 6:00 pm in Hilo for $20.00. “I am so excited that a musician of John’s quality will be joining us and bringing his music to Hilo. He is a legend in Hawaiian music and what better way to continue Hawaii’s endless summer then with great music and friends.” stated Performances Director at the Banyan Drive Café David Wallerstein.

From the time he was a young boy growing up in Palolo Valley on Oahu, John Cruz knew he was destined to play music. Whether inside or outside the home, his earliest memories were filled with song. His Hawaiian grandmother had a beautiful voice and sang in church.  His mom loved the Motown sound and had an extensive record collection. His dad played country music and taught John to perform live shows at a very young age. His brothers and sisters were all musically inclined and, along with numerous aunties, uncles, cousins, neighbors and friends, they have surrounded John with the gift of music for his entire life.

John has distinguished himself as one of the most talented artists that has ever come from Hawaii. He was named the Best Singer Songwriter by Hawaii Magazine in 2008. This well-earned reputation became even more solidified when he released his long-awaited second album, One of These Days in 2007. It debuted firmly at #1 in Hawaii, #2 on the Billboard Heatseekers Chart and #6 on the Billboard World Chart. The Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts gave the CD its highest honor in 2008, by awarding John the Na Hoku Hanohano Award for Contemporary Album of the Year. It delivers more of the warm, heartfelt melodies and passionate, soulful vocals that John’s fans have grown to know and love.

Tickets for John Cruz are $20.00 and dinner reservations can also be made for the evening of the concert. To purchase tickets, get information on concert and to make dinner reservations please call 808-383-3035 or visit the Banyan Drive Café during business hours or purchase at the door the night of the performance 2 hours before concert.

This summer is all about music at the Volcano Art Center on Hawaii’s Big Island, and there is no better way to appreciate this ancient art than with a contemporary acoustic concert series. Starting in June, Summer Unplugged kicks off an unforgettable lineup of four intimate evenings generously seasoned with heartfelt “talk story” time from its remarkably personable stars.

Peterson boasts a stunning discography, including five solo recordings showcasing his slack key guitar artistry: Kahealani (2003), Slack Key Jazz (2005), The Artistry of Jeff Peterson (2006), Pure Slack Key (2007) and Maui On My Mind (2009). He has worked with an overabundance of noteworthy musicians, including Eric Clapton, James Galway, Aaron Neville, Boz Scaggs, shakuhachi master Riley Lee and the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.
