On Wednesday, November 9 at 6pm, Kahilu Theatre presents the award-winning Modern Māori Quartet from New Zealand.
The Modern Māori Quartet brings the concept of a Māori Ratpack into the present with a contemporary twist, weaving their acting and musical abilities together to tell stories and fusing hearty and humorous Māori storytelling with the Western tradition of show band entertainment.
Their signature cabaret- style show, An Evening with the Modern Māori Quartet, promises a trip down memory lane as this multi-talented foursome bring a fresh twist to Kiwi golden oldies and a unique spin on recent international hits.
The group’s work highlights New Zealand’s musical past and present through a repertoire that blends old-school charm with modern pizzazz, featuring unique spins on Māori waiata, show band hits and pop music, all infused with group’s irresistible charisma, sublime harmonies, and universal humor.
Hailing from different corners of Aotearoa the Modern Māori Quartet consists of accomplished actor/musicians James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Francis Kora. They aspire to be one of Aotearoa’s global cultural ambassadors, representing the revival of a proud heritage of world- class Māori show band entertainment with relevance and appeal to today’s contemporary markets; at the heart of it all – hearty Māori entertainment.
