An Evening with the Modern Māori Quartet

On Wednesday, November 9 at 6pm, Kahilu Theatre presents the award-winning Modern Māori Quartet from New Zealand.

modern-maoriThe Modern Māori Quartet brings the concept of a Māori Ratpack into the present with a contemporary twist, weaving their acting and musical abilities together to tell stories and fusing hearty and humorous Māori storytelling with the Western tradition of show band entertainment.

Their signature cabaret- style show, An Evening with the Modern Māori Quartet, promises a trip down memory lane as this multi-talented foursome bring a fresh twist to Kiwi golden oldies and a unique spin on recent international hits.

The group’s work highlights New Zealand’s musical past and present through a repertoire that blends old-school charm with modern pizzazz, featuring unique spins on Māori waiata, show band hits and pop music, all infused with group’s irresistible charisma, sublime harmonies, and universal humor.

modern-maori2Hailing from different corners of Aotearoa the Modern Māori Quartet consists of accomplished actor/musicians James Tito, Maaka Pohatu, Matariki Whatarau and Francis Kora. They aspire to be one of Aotearoa’s global cultural ambassadors, representing the revival of a proud heritage of world- class Māori show band entertainment with relevance and appeal to today’s contemporary markets; at the heart of it all – hearty Māori entertainment.

The Kahilu Theatre doors open at 5pm for the performance and there will be beverages and snacks available for sale at the Kahilu Theatre bar.
