Residents in the Puna District on the Big Island of Hawaii were among the hardest hit when Hurricane Iselle made landfall.

Work to clear roads and restore utilities continues. Some areas may still be cut off and people in these areas may need ice, coolers, propane, lanterns, canned food, blankets and clothing.

Hawaii Island United Way in conjunction with Hawaii County Civil Defense are coordinating relief efforts.

  1. Left some messages for HAUW staff regarding a gasifier technology that I have on Oahu that can create a syngas that can then be used to run stoves and/or electricity for refrigeration or lighting. It runs 24/7 and needs some minor cleaning and other to run.

    The unit runs on wood chips or macadamia nutshells so chipped albizia is fine and/or shell supply from the mac nut farms.

    The genset has to be provided and it can only be 5-6kW in size. This is enough power to run several refrigerators and/or 200, 25W CFL light bulbs.

    Call me at 808-721-2113 if you have a need or group that is disadvantaged from costs of fuel or other.
