Two local student-athletes use hoop camp spark to help them start their higher education journey. Tyler Meyer (Honokaa High School) and Kainoa Peterson (Hanalani School) were all-stars at the Hawaii Island Hoops College-Prep Basketball camp this past June.
Taking advantage of the expertise of many college coaches in attendance, Hawaii Island Hoops evening college-prep seminar had a lasting effect on many aspiring student-athletes. In particular, Tyler Meyer (Honokaa) and Kainoa Peterson (Hanalani) applied what they had learned and are now beginning their higher education at Eastern Arizona Junior College and New Hope Christian College, in Eugene, Oregon respectively.
“HIH has not only helped me with basketball, but help me in getting into college”. Said Kainoa Peterson. “I’ll be studying business and playing the shooting guard position and look forward to representing the 808 state”. “I’m excited about this new chapter and experience in my life”.
“I’ve learned how to improve my game and what it takes to play on the next level. Said Tyler Meyer”. “I feel that my experience with HIH college-prep camps prepared me well and look forward to my new experience at Eastern Arizona Junior College. “Achieving a college education has always been my goal”.
“We’re proud to see our college-prep camp participants take advantage of the opportunity presented to them. Said Director Andy Smith. “Our goal is to develop a culture of top notch sports and education and provide the proper leadership to accomplish the two”.
