Big Island’s Bree Wee Wins Ironman Louisville

Bree Wee wins Ironman Louisville!  She first burst onto the Ironman scene at home here on the Big Island when she set a new age group record at the Ironman World Championship. That was a year after she became a mom.

Bree Wee crosses the finish line in first place

Since she’s turned pro she’s had some top finishes, but never been able to get an Ironman win. Today she she gets the win!

A joyous moment

Here are the top five pro women’s times today:
1 09:36:27 29 Wee, Bree Kailua-Kona HI USA WPRO
2 09:38:14 00:01:48 33 Arendt, Jackie Middleton WI USA WPRO
3 09:53:27 00:17:01 32 Castro, Terra Arlington VA USA WPRO
4 09:55:25 00:18:58 35 Gollnick, Heather Port St. Lucie FL USA WPRO
5 10:09:45 00:33:19 31 Gellatly, April Sugar Hill GA USA WPRO

It was close… but Bree pulled it out!

Just five seconds separated Bree Wee and Jackie Arendt after the swim – it was the three minute difference on the bike that won the race today for the Hawaiian. (Arendt ran the marathon two minutes faster, but it wasn’t quite enough.)
Last night Bree wrote the following:
Tomorrow is the day, a long one that holds so many opportunities.  There is something so special about 104.6 miles.  It is one of the rare times in life that you endure mental and physical pain that result in pleasure and sheer finish line joy (if you want it).  Awaiting us are chances that take courage, moments of weakness that can be overcome by a single change of attitude, and of course an entire day mostly dealing with yourself.  You are your own cheerleader, your very own encourager, and you have the power to shut down, break down, and everything else if you let yourself…so many ways to take a day all by our attitudes…
