KOA Puna 2011 Toys for Tots Campaign

KOA Puna MC is at it again with the kickstart of the 2011 Toys for Tots Campaign. This year they have a list of 400 keiki that have requested Christmas gifts from Santa and the club has a series of events scheduled to raise money and collect new toys for the drive.

Started in 1947 by the United States Marine Corps, the Toys for Tots program has collected and distributed over 500 million toys in the U.S. Every year, many groups, individuals, organizations and corporations have helped to raise money and collect new toys for kids, and this year in Puna the Toys for Tots drive is going strong. Working in association with the Maku’u Farmer’s Association, and local businesses, the club is working toward the goal of raising  $10,000.00 to gift 400 toys to local keiki.

Schedule of events:

Every Sunday through Nov. 19th. KOA Puna MC will have a booth at the Maku’u Farmer’s Market to accept donations for the Toys for Tots drive or you can “adopt” a keiki for Christmas and donate 25.00 to buy them a gift from Santa. At the booth, the club is also accepting any re-saleable items to raise additional money and you can drop off a new toy for the 0-11 year old keiki’s.

Friday, October 21st. The Pahoa Village Club joins hands with KOA Puna MC with live music and entertainment 8pm. to 1 am. $5.00 cover charge will be donated to the local Toys for Tots drive.

November 19th. 10 am. to 2 pm. A time to bring everyone together at the Maku’u Farmer’s Market site for a fun day of music, food and fun. Boucny toys for the keiki and more! This event will be the final wrap-up for the Toys for Tots program, so bring the whole family for this huge event.

There are 2 other events that are pending and will be posted soon, so stay tuned. For more information on this program, please call Auntie Paula at 808-896-5537.
