In July I had the opportunity to attend the grand opening of the Eddie Aikau Restaurant and Surf Museum, however the place was so packed with people, that despite them serving heavy pupu’s for their opening… I didn’t get a chance to eat that much!

Well a friend of mine who helps the restaurant with some of their social media stuff, including their facebook site, invited me back to the restaurant this weekend as she knew that I was going to be on that side of the island for the Taste of the Hawaiian Range so we met for lunch on Thursday where I was treated to an arrange of awesome things.

Chef Scott Lutey brought out this treat to begin our meal that consisted of strawberries, mac nuts, goat cheese, carmel and chocolate.  I was told the proper foodie term for the dessert was “Amuse Broche“.

My friend let me choose whatever I wanted from the menu and despite having great prices on their specials that were going on…

I chose the Big Island Grass Fed Beef Cheeseburger smothered with provolone cheese and a side of sweet potato fries.

In Hawaii… we say “Broke Da Mouth” when something is really good and this hamburger definitely “Broke Da Mouth!” My friend that I was with, had one of the fresh Catch of the Day Fish sandwiches that included a great smelling pesto sauce.

About half way through our food, a waitress came over and talked about this dish that was being made and the next thing you know… it arrived at our table!

It was called Pele’s Chicken Wraps with Hoisin Sauce and there was so much of it… I got to bring some home and have it later on in the evening!

After we were through eating, I took a quick tour of the Museum aspects of the Restaurant and was told that they are still building the collection.

The restaurant has a real nice atmosphere and when I talked to their social media person, they are talks about possibly expanding the restaurant if it is successful.

The restaurant itself is located in the Kings Shops in Waikoloa and I’d like to thank both the restaurant and the person that treated me for the awesome lunch!

  1. Great post, Damon – mahalo!

  2. Ah darn Damon! Do you know how MEAN you are being when you post delicious food articles like this, with gourgeous pictures of the site???

It’s 5AM in the morning in Hilo and I can’t whip over there to share some of your leftovers or even some rightovers. Can you at least attempt to develop “smell-vison” or something like that, so I am not so envious!!!

At least now I know where I want to eat when I am on Kona Side. Thanks for posting. Love, Mom
