Last Thursday, Five for Fighting put on a concert at the Royal Kona Resort that I was fortunate enough to be invited to.
The doors opened at 5:30 and folks filed into the courtyard of the resort.
Barry Flanagan of HAPA opened the show as the sun was setting.
Five for Fighting is actually just the name that John Ondrasik dubbed for his own group name so that he could separate his life and the music he plays from his own personal life.
I went backstage for a little while and this is a picture I took with my iPhone:
I met KBIG Radio Personality Keith Vachon backstage and he talked about his radio interview with John on the phone the other day.
Vachon gave me the following explanation of what Five for Fighting meant and how Ondrasik chose the name… Ondrasik is a big fan of hockey and a penalty in hockey is five minutes in the penalty box otherwise known as “Five for Fighting” and he liked that name and stuck with it.
Ondrasik later told the crowd the same story later on in the evening.
I’m still learning my new camera, so I was happy to meet photographer Jerusha Schoenhoff at the concert and she had the “big gun” of a camera so I asked her if I could use some of her pictures.
I took this multi shot picture using the Sports mode of the camera and I liked how it turned out… but I’m not near the photographer that Jerusha is.
I’d like to thank the Royal Kona Resort for hosting this great concert as well as John Ondrasik and Barry Flanagan for putting it on.
I look forward to returning to the resort on May 6th for the Toad the Wet Sprocket concert!
