Former Big Island Resident Has Been Portraying Abe Lincoln for Thirty Years Now

Former Big Island resident, Fritz Klein,  has been portraying Abraham Lincoln for the last thirty years on the mainland.

Fritz Klein was working as a landscaper on the big island of Hawaii when a director asked him to play Abraham Lincoln in a community theater production.

“I was on the thin side. I had a top hat and tails,” Mr. Klein recalled during a telephone interview from his home in Springfield, Ill.

Mr. Klein, who is 6 feet 4, not only accepted the role, for the past 30 years, but also he has embraced it. He stars in the orientation film at the Lincoln Home National Historic Site in the 16th president’s hometown, where he has lived since 1982. Last month alone, he made 22 appearances…
