Zipline Canopy Tour at Big Island Eco Adventures

Today I had the opportunity to go zip-lining with a group of media folks from the mainland at Big Island Eco Adventures in Hawi on the Kohala coast of the Big Island.

We met at Luke’s Place where they checked us in and got us fitted with our gear.

Getting suited up

We then climbed into a six wheel pinzgauer that would take us about 20 minutes away from the restaurant and about 6 miles up into the Kohala Jungles.

Off roading it!

We started the day off with a couple smaller ones so that we could learn how to turn.  Since I’ve gone ziplining a few other times… I had no problem jumping up on the platform first.

First up!

Here is a video of the third zipline we went on.

The Kohala jungle was great… I tried to be brave and cross this suspension bridge like Indiana Jones would… but the next thing I knew… the guides were bouncing me around and I just wanted to get across the buggah!

After we went on six of the ziplines… we stopped off at the Mac Nut Hut, where they had snacks consisting of banana bread, fruit kabobs, juice and trail mix.

Grinds!

We stayed there for about 20 minutes taking in the views and catching our breath.

The weather held up great for us and although we were in a jungle… I was amazed that I didn’t get bitten up by mosquitoes as they normally attack me in environments like this.

We went on one more zip line before we came to the grand finale which was 1047 feet long and had a pretty good decline.

The final zipline

I took this video of the final ride, however, I wasn’t looking in the view finder and I got turned around so it didn’t turn out the way I was hoping it would.

  1. It was still scary! But really fun. The guides Braxton and Brandon helped make it seem easy.

    • Braxton and Brandon were great…

The trick to this zipline tour is to not fear things and to lead the pack… then you get to see the things that happen…. like the Braxton Bears and the Brandon Mongooses that jump out of no where!
