University of Hawaii Alumni Association… Don’t Say I Didn’t Warn You! Re: Harris Connect Scam

Back in September of 2009, I questioned an email that I got on behalf of the University of Hawaii Alumni Association (Is UH Really Updating Their Alumni Directory).

I kept getting irritated by these emails I was getting and so I investigated a bit further about Harris Connect the company in question and in October I found out that this company isn’t as great as they make themselves out to be.  (UH Alumni Foundation and Harris Connect What is Really Going On)

Yesterday, I received a tweet from the UH Alumni Association Twitter Site asking me the following:

U of Hawaii Alumni UHAlumni

Hi Damon, are you still receiving email from Harris? We were using Harris to host our site & provide some tools along w/the directory proj.

I replied:

I put em in my spam box… but have noticed a large increase in visits to that post that I made.

They then tweeted me the following:

UHAlumni

Sorry you’re still getting email from them. We’ve had challenges with Harris and the alumni directory proj., might be the cause of visits.

I guess I can still laugh at this email I received:

Dear University of Hawai’i Alumni,

Recently you may have been e-mailed a request to verify your University of Hawai’i alumni information. We want to assure you that the request is legitimate, sent on our behalf by Harris Connect, LLC, with whom we have partnered to produce a 2010 UH alumni directory. We hope you will contribute to making this a treasured resource by sharing your stories, pictures and life experiences with friends and former classmates. Harris Connect will continue trying to reach UH alumni in the coming weeks via e-mail, mail and telephone to encourage participation in the project.

Harris Connect’s commitment to protecting your privacy and ensuring the integrity of the information collected is reflected in their privacy policy online. Should you have any questions or concerns, or if you do not want to be included in the directory, please contact Doug Harmon, project manager, at 1-800-735-8239 or dharmon@harrisconnect.com.

Sincerely,

  1. Just got off the phone with the Harris people. I told them that I was recording the conversation and the tone quickly changed. They are so cozy and friendly on the “updatin” side of things. But when you find out that you have been billed for something you did not agree to, how the fangs come out. They must not know the reach of social media these days.

  2. You guys are really stupid and it’s got to be embarrassing for your school! All you have to do is call your school and ask the alumni department if Harris Connect is doing your Alumni Book. Do your homework instaed of writing blogs that make UH look like they have DUMB STUDENTS!
