Part VI:  Quotes from the Diary (Part A) – “I managed to get away from Antonio …

Continued from Part V:  The Homes and Structures of Yap

My mom composed a 22 page “Diary” that she compiled her thoughts on during her time in Yap.  When she returned to the mainland she typed it all out.  Fortunately for me, she has held onto this diary all of her life.

I will break the diary down to two parts, this is Part A:

PART A

I’ll be scanning some of this diary, however, the pictures are just visuals and do not necessarily go along with what is being said in the diary.

      1. I’m glad i found this page and read more about the interesting stories of your mom experience.. I really like the pictures :)

      2. Damon, The pictures remind me of the islands as I found them when I first arrived in 1963. I’ve been there ever since, most of the time as director of Micronesian Seminar (website given above). We have a very good collection of photos and music at MicSem–some 80,000 photos and about 15,000 songs and chants. Would you consider letting us have copies of these photos to file at MicSem and to use as needed by the islanders who so often come to copy what they need? You can contact me at the above email address. Thanks, Fran

      3. Thank you so much for posting this! I am finding it fascinating reading! What an amazing experience for your family…We are planning a trip there next year for our 25th wedding anniversary. I can’t wait!

      4. What interesting stories your mom must have!
