Police Catch Kona Crime Spree Suspect

Big Island police have arrested a 19-year-old Kona man for 17 offenses in connection with a series of crimes in the Kailua-Kona area during October and November.

Detectives in the Area II Criminal Investigations Section have confirmed that between October 14 and November 14, Justin M. J. Gryde was responsible for entering at least four homes and one business in the Kailua-Kona area. In some instances, vehicle keys were taken from the homes and the vehicles were subsequently stolen.

Gryde’s crime spree also included breaking into vehicles and stealing mopeds. Police have recovered all of the vehicles and mopeds, along with two personal credit cards, jewelry, a retired police officer’s retirement badge and a large number of keys to houses, condominiums and cars.

Gryde was charged with four counts of unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, three counts of unauthorized entry into a motor vehicle, five counts of residential burglary, one count of commercial burglary, one count of possessing personal/confidential information and three counts of second-degree theft.

His bail has been set at $50,000. He remains at the Kealakehe police cellblock pending his initial court appearance.

Temporary Road Closure on Kilaha Street Next Tuesday

The staff of the Department of Parks and Recreation will be removing a large tree at Ainaola Park on Tuesday, November 24, which requires a temporary road closure on Kilaha Street between Kilaha Place and Maunakai Street beginning 8 a.m. until approximately 2 p.m.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for their patience and requests that drivers use caution while driving in the area.

The correct date of the tree removal is Tuesday, November 24. The incorrect date in the post has been corrected. Also, it’s Ainaola Park, not Ainaloa as the original headline said. Mahalo to all those who pointed out the errors.

What Are You Thinking McDonalds?

So I go into McDonalds the other day and pick up a “Happy Meal” for my son. I see the toy in the package and I tell my son he can’t open it until he gets home.

We get home and open it…  and it’s this:

It’s a little taser looking thing that is actually a ROCKET LAUNCHER!

I’m the type of parent that won’t even buy a squirt GUN for my son less yet any type of a gun.

Now McDonalds has ruined it for me!!!  My son loves his Rocket Launcher!  I need to make sure I keep him away from the Taliban!
