BJ Penn in the Olympics, Why Not… St. Pierre is Thinking of It

So George St. Pierre has announced that he’s thinking about turning out for the Canadian National Wrestling Team for the 2012 Olympics.

I’d love to see BJ Penn turn out for US Judo team for the 2012 Olympics.

Let’s take a look back at what he did when he was younger in Judo to a black belt when he was just learning the sport.

BJ =  White Belt vs. Opponent:  Black Belt

  1. Not to take anything from BJ or his resounding victory on Saturday night, but there is just no way he can compete at Judo with US Olympic caliber athletes. Likewise, it would be very difficult for the judoists to compete in MMA against experienced athletes like BJ. Yup, I’ve seen the video – just because someone is a black belt doesn’t mean he’s an expert or anywhere near Olympic caliber. I’ve also seen the local jujitsu guys compete in Judo and while their toughness and hard training allow them to do well and win matches, I’ve never seen anyone prevail over the top Judo competitors (and these are just top local competitors – we’re not talking about Olympic team members!). BJ is great, I admire his training ethic, but let’s get real!

  2. Sounds like a good idea. Hope he’s not in the same weight class as George.
    Aloha,
    Keahi
