Control Freaks… Are You Killing Me?

Someone asked me why I’m so interested in the amount of members of Friends of Puna’s Future (FoPF).

Well, it’s because I know the intention of the organization, as a former charter member,  is to make itself look big and I know Rob Tucker is trying to get enough members formed to get a lawsuit against the county.

He won’t give numbers… because he wants FoPF to seem bigger then it is… when it isn’t.

I was then questioned about my “control” on members of the FBI Blogs by someone pretty close to this situation and I was like… WTF… I don’t have any anonymous bloggers posting to the FBI Blogs and they are all quite frank and honest who they are.

Pfft… Control freaks… (I’m killing you RJ)

Some people want to control others… Others like to give control to the people.

Are you a controller… or are you an enabler?

Let’s think about things… do you give free expression away… or do you attempt to charge to bring members into an organization… and then limit their speech?

Pfft…

Power to the people… FBI BLOGGERS RULE…. we do what we like… W/OUT someone telling us what we can do… (well except for me telling a few folks not to throw swear words on their fucking headlines)… DARREN… (just teasing)

As I’ve said to all the FBI Bloggers… feel free to blog about what you want… I have no control over you… and I won’t try to… or charge you for it.

Those wishing to join Friends of Puna’s Future… may want to think twice about joining this organization.

I joined it… paid $100.00 and have been outcasted by Rob Tucker for not being able to be “controlled”.

So with full disclosure… this is the profiles of all the FBI Bloggers… and has been available to anyone wanting to look at them at anytime  by simply hitting “PROFILES” on the FBI Blog site:

ANY OTHER ORGANIZATIONS ON THIS ISLAND CARE TO BE UPFRONT?

Nuff Already… Bring It… Let Us Keep Capturing More Data

LOL…

I know your IP as well… care to keep taking swings at me now that I know who you are?

People who think they are so sly and anonymous…. pfft.

When will idiots keep taking swipes at bloggers who know where and who their readers are for the most part and often share information?

I love the haters that post anonymously and folks that understand the internet well enough to know what a personal attack is and where it’s orchestrated from.

This island is about to get shaken up! LOL!

Sockpuppets… and anonymous folks that want to bash me or other folks online…. be prepared to be exposed for who you really are.

Mahalo to the blogging community for knowing the difference between an idiot, a hater, and a sock puppet.

Coast Guard Removes 32 Tons of Derelict Fishing Nets from Papahanaumokuakea

…The crew of the Walnut, a 225-foot buoy tender home ported in Honolulu, partnered with NOAA and the U.S. Army’s 7th Engineer Dive Team to remove more than 32 tons of derelict fishing nets and other refuse from the coral reefs in the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument…

…On Monday, July 13, the cutter crew will offload the debris in Honolulu Harbor and transfer it to containers on the pier, which will then be picked up by Schnitzer Steel Corporation, which will shred the debris. Open Letter to Mayor Kenoi From Syd Singer on Alien Scale Insect

July 13, 2009

Dear Mayor Kenoi:

I am writing you on behalf of thousands of residents who have been opposing efforts of the US Forest Service to release an alien scale insect, Tectococcus ovatus, as a biocontrol for strawberry guava.

We have just discovered that the new environmental assessment, which was expected on May 23, is now indefinitely postponed.

This is a great relief to many residents who enjoy waiawi fruit, which is considered a “super-food” for its nutritional value.  As the current economic recession drags on, more and more people will come to appreciate and rely on our wild foods.  Using our natural resources, like strawberry guava, is what sustainability and food sovereignty is all about.

However, this scale insect is already on the Big Island, being reared in a quarantine facility operated by the US Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, located within Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

Many residents are concerned that the insects may escape, along with other species of plant pests and pathogens that are being researched at that facility. Accidental release of quarantined insects or other pathogens could result in environmental and agricultural devastation.  Fueling the concern was a 2005 article in the Maui News, where the quarantine facility was described as “decrepit” by Dr. Tracy Johnson, who operates the facility.

Upon investigation, we have discovered that
the Volcano facility was not engineered to withstand earthquakes, and does not meet current Federal seismic construction standards.

We also learned the Hawaii Department of Agriculture does not know what other insects or plant pathogens are being reared and researched at that facility, claiming that the US Forest Service is not required to get a State permit to import alien insects, fungi, or other pathogens for research in federal facilities.

The public needs, and has a right, to know what other species are being reared at that quarantine facility. However, the Forest Service is not wanting to give that information.

We have been told by Mr. Mento of the Hawaii County Civil Defense that his department has contacted Boone Kaufman of the Forest Service, who manages the Volcano facility, and Mr. Kaufman is preparing a written response.

Mayor Kenoi, please
help get the Volcano quarantine facility closed down for the safety of our island. A highly active volcanic island is a foolish place to put an insect quarantine facility — unless the entire island is to be regarded as nothing more than a field test site for insect research.

With your attention to this vital issue, we may be able to avert what is otherwise an inevitable earthquake catastrophe.

Sincerely,

Sydney Ross Singer

Project Better Place… An Update

I just received the following email regarding the Project Better Place project:

Hi Damon,

Hope all is well! I noticed you blogged about Better Place’s battery exchange station back in May so I just wanted to pass this information along to you as an FYI.  Better Place released figures today from a multi-national study that conducted systematic research on consumer interest in electric vehicles (including Hawaii), Israel, Denmark, Canada, and Australia. (EVs) – it surveyed drivers in the U.S.

Some of the key findings in the study included:
•    More than one in three would not consider a ‘gas only’ car for their next vehicle.
•    EVs have mainstream appeal – interest spans all demographic groups and driving patterns.
•    Americans’ top priority in their next car is fuel efficiency.
•    Americans are concerned about climate change, air pollution, and dependence on oil.
•    There is a strong desire for the U.S. to provide global leadership in development of renewable energy.

I’ve also included the full release below.

Mahalo!
Andrew

Strong Consumer Interest in Electric Vehicles Bodes Well for New Era of Sustainable Transportation
Multi-national survey reveals that electric cars have mainstream appeal

Palo Alto, Calif. (July 13, 2009) – Nearly one in three (30%) U.S. car buyers are interested in purchasing an electric vehicle (EV) for their next car, according to a recent study on consumer EV sentiment sponsored by Better Place and conducted by Ipsos, a leading global market-research company. While interest in EVs was strong in all five nations surveyed, interest was highest in Israel, where 57% of drivers are interested in purchasing an EV for their next car. Denmark (40%), Australia (39%), Canada (35%; Greater Toronto area only), and the U.S. (30%) followed.  And, 28% of Israeli respondents said they would only consider an EV for their next vehicle.

Highlights of the survey of more than 8,000 drivers are:
•    Consumers are ready to move beyond gasoline. The multi-national study revealed that, on average, nearly half (48%) of car buyers do not plan to consider “gas-only” automobiles for their next car.
•    Electric cars have mainstream appeal. Interest in EVs spans all demographics and driving patterns, dispelling concerns that EVs are niche products.  Interest in EVs was widespread among men and women and across income levels.  Interest was high across the age spectrum as well, although younger drivers (18-34) were the most interested. Driving patterns had little impact on EV interest. Interest was also similar among those whose car was the secondary car in the household, the primary car in the household, and also among those for whom the car was the only car in the household.
•    Interest does vary on the basis of car buyers’ societal concerns. According to the study, most U.S. car buyers are concerned about air pollution or climate change (62%) and even more concerned about the country’s dependence on oil (74%), even more than terrorism (63%). Related to these concerns, U.S. car buyers want the nation to be a global leader in developing renewable energy (78%), reducing worldwide oil consumption (59%), and reducing pollution (55%).  Those expressing one or more of these concerns are more likely to say they are interested in purchasing an EV for their next car.

“The survey reflects the future of transportation, which is electric,” said Shai Agassi, Founder and CEO, Better Place.  “There’s a perfect storm of dynamics driving toward mainstream adoption of EVs, including consumer desire for a clean planet, global efforts to decrease oil consumption, transformation in the auto sector and significant investment in technology.  The combination of these factors is propelling the dawn of a new automotive era.”

About the Study Methodology:
The study was conducted in March and April 2009, when gas prices were near a 52-week low, and included more than 8,000 respondents from the U.S., Canada (Greater Toronto Area), Australia (Sydney/Central Coast, Melbourne/Geelong, Brisbane/Gold Coast), Denmark, and Israel. The size of the sample exceeds that of most studies of this type, increasing the reliability and precision of the estimates. Ipsos drew a stratified, random sample to reflect the gender, income and age profile of each local market from best-of-class, online-survey panels in each market. The sample was filtered to include only those individuals involved in the selection of their prior car or expected to be involved in their next car purchase. Participants were given comparable descriptions of electric, hybrid, and gas-only cars in order to assess their interest. Standard data cleaning procedures were employed, and Ipsos and Better Place performed statistical analyses.
