West Hawaii Today: More Ads… Less News

Anyone notice the new online layout for the West Hawaii Today?

They have switched to a four column template from a three column template.

What this does is squeezes out the news and gives room for more advertising on the front page.

More ads less news… check it out, the West Hawaii Today.

By the way, the Hawaii Tribune Herald is still at three columns, but I predict them to make the change soon.

Online ads are worth a bit more when they  stay on your front page then buried on pages underneath.

  1. I think there is something different to the look, but probably just on the main page.

Damon – It has reverted it’s look today. It did not look like this yesterday.

  2. And I thought it was just the small screen of my new netbook causing things to reformat oddly.

  3. Dave – You know now that I look at it… It might have been four columns all along, just the last two days the way the articles were laid out have given the online paper a very weird effect. I’m not sure if my above blog posting is correct now that I re-exam the site. But then again, I don’t spend much time on their site. I apologize in advance to the WHT if it always has been 4 columns.

  4. Even if this is true, and I don’t really notice a difference, how is it relevant? On the Web sites only links to and at most the first paragraph of articles have been displayed. None appear to be displaced, and it’s not like the front page of the physical paper where much of the article is carried before it is jumped.
