Daniel Okubo of Waiakea High Wins $3,000 Scholarship

Daniel Okubo of Waiakea High School was one of seven High School seniors in the state to win a $3,000 scholarship check from the Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation.

The Mamoru and Aiko Takitani Foundation, Inc. has awarded scholarships to 61 exceptional seniors from every qualifying public and independent high school in Hawaii. Two students were presented Distinguished Student Awards of $10,000 each and one student received an Outstanding Student Award of $5,000. Seven high school seniors received $3,000 scholarships and 51 additional students were awarded $1,000 scholarships.

District Finalists and recipients of $3,000 scholarships are as follows: Estrella Madani of Moloka`i High School. She is daughter of Laurie Madani. Reika Miyokawa of Saint Andrews Priory. She is the daughter of Manami and Akio Miyokawa. Daniel Okubo of Waiakea High School. He is the son of Joan and Paul Okubo. Tristan Poasa of Saint Louis School. He is the son of Michelle Poasa. Edward Ruan of Moanalua High School. He is the son of Rui Zhi and Hua Da Ruan. Stephanie Soon of James B. Castle High School. She is the daughter of Amelia and Howard Soon. Kari Urada of Pearl City High School. She is the daughter of Annette and Dwight Urada.
