   I drifted away from being a regular Journey fan many years ago, but I have to say, Arnel Pineda has Steve Perry beat hands down. Why couldn’t they sign him when they started the band? Oh yeah…he wasn’t born yet.

   Rock music in the Philippines back in the late ’70s and ’80s was amazing back in the days when I used to visit Subic Bay. The Olongapo City club bands that play the mega-groups’ music, AC/DC, Journey, etc. practiced in the clubs all day long, had towering walls of Marshall amps behind them pushing their music. When they got on the stage and you closed your eyes, it was difficult to tell that you were not listening to the original artists.
