@joshontheradio was kind enough to allow me a few minutes on ESPN Talk Radio the other day on his sports show that is broadcast throughout the Big Island.

On today’s episode, we talk about the USA Amateur Boxing event with Anthony Pagan and his boxers, the DPW/Bis Island Blog controversy with Damon Tucker of Damon Tuckers Blog, our Sport Up! Spotlight with Lyle Crozier, including questions on the future of the BIIF, and we go Running with the Big Dog, Wayne Joseph!

*UPDATE… GO LOOK* Hawaii House Blog Featuring Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science Charter School at the State Capital Soon?

I have the feeling that Georgette Deemer *update* and/or Thelma Dreyer, of the Hawaii House Blog, is going to be posting a blog sometime soon about some kids that attend the Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science (HAAS) Charter School here in Pahoa being at the State Capital in Honolulu.

tweets Georgette Deemer:

We’re helping young film crew (14-16 yrs) prep for shoot at capitol tomorrow (today). From charter school on Big Island; 1st trip to HNL for some.

So I had to ask her what school it was:

@damontucker It’s Hawaii Academy of Arts and Science in Pahoa.

I tweeted the following to her:

“If you get a chance… I’d love to see some sort of blog on HAAS at the capitol. If can… can… If no can… no can.”

And she replied:

You got it!

So check out the Hawaii House Blog today when you get a chance, or tomorrow if she hasn’t posted it today to see our local kids in action over there at the State Capital.

FBI’s Finest: From the Big Island Bloggers

I’ve started a *Beta* site for Big Island Bloggers to make connections and just have a place to link to.

The blogs listed on this site are only for Big Island Bloggers to have their site listed.

FBI ONLY blog links will be posted there.

Not looking for commercial sites… ONLY BLOGS.

If you are interested in checking out the BETA site… shoot me an email at

Once I get all the kinks worked out I’ll send out more information on how to obtain your official “FBI Button” for your own blog… and I will be adding a blog on my site announcing the new site along with a link to it as a button on one of my columns.

So even if your not linked on my blogroll… you are definately still welcome to post your link there.

The link will contain a link to your most recent posted blog and will be updated automatically through RSS feeds.

6 Big Island Bloggers signed on today.

There is no cost… you just might have to come party with us once a year… j/k.

I’m not worried so much about the content of your blog, as long as it derives from the Big Island.  (Please don’t use swear words in the title of the Blog as the title of the blog is fed automatically onto the site)

It’s still in a trial/beta phase, but all participating bloggers should have access there to also post notes of interest that they might not want to post on their own blog for one reason or another.

So send me an email if your interested… and of course at anytime if you wanted to… your blog could also be removed.

Big Island Film Festival, May 14-17th

May 14 – 17, 2009 marks the fourth year of Big Island Film Festival at Waikoloa Beach Resort on the Big Island of Hawaii. This “Talk Story” film festival is a celebration of independent narrative filmmakers and their short and feature films…

You can view the overview of the festival here.

Oh Great… Now I’m a “Sick Puppy”

Funny man Groucho Marx Andy Parx has been following the Blackballing of bloggers on the Big Island and has posted a few blogs on them.

In today’s blog… I guess I’m “One Sick Puppy“.

Parx blogs:

…The memo reveals a type of paranoia and need for control that is the product of a sick mind and one would think that just the fact that she wrote it down and distributed it would make her position with the county in jeopardy..

Not that she needs to worry about employment- a mind like that would be a valuable asset working in the nuclear power or GMO industry, perhaps defending “clean coal” or something.

Whittington, who continued to BS the reporter after being caught, apparently couldn’t even keep straight which BI bloggers she wanted to ban, even including poor Doug White at Poinography who lives in Honolulu…

Why the Hokulea Delayed it’s Trip to Palmyra by Nainoa Thompson

Polynesian navigator Nainoa Thompson shares with the crew some of the factors that go into making the decision of whether to set sail of not. They are discussing going to Palmyra Atoll 1,000 miles south of Hawai’i. This voyage is the first deep-ocean training for the Hōkūle’a Wolrdwide Voyage in which the traditional Hawaiian canoe will circumnavigate the Earth. The crew carry with them the idea that we are all crew members on Canoe Earth and, just as on Hōkūle’a, we need to care for one another an our resources:

Behind the Scenes With the Hokulea Escort Boat The Kama Hele… Videos

Traveling with the Hokulea on this trip to Palmyra there is an escort boat named the Kama Hele.  It looks like the Kama Hele will be the communications center for this voyage and they are broadcasting youtube videos of the trip.

The following videos will show you a bit about what the escort’s boat responsibility is on a mission like this:

Captain Mike Cunningham of the escort boat Kama Hele explains the function of an escort boat for Hōkūle’a. It is Polynesian Voyaging Society policy to always have an escort boat follow the traditional Hawaiian voyaging canoe Hōkūle’a in case of emergency. Crew members aboard the Kama Hele are also training for the Hōkūle’a Worldwide Voyage in which the canoe will circumnavigate the Earth using ancient Polynesian navigation techniques. The crew carries with them the idea that we are all crew members on Canoe Earth and, just as on Hōkūle’a, we need to care for one another an our resources.

My “on call” position… is now PERMANENT!!!

It’s weird how things come in threes…

I’ve been unemployed for quite some time now since I quit my State job over on Oahu and moved back home.

I had been pretty lazy about looking for a job and I knew one would come if I really put my mind to it.

I started subbing for the Dept. of  Education last month and today the Vice-Principal called me in to offer me a permanent position.  Of course I accepted it on the spot.

I also start the Census training at the end of month and that will be another 20 hours per week….

And then just last night… I was offered a position where I can actually work at home for $12.00 bucks an hour for 10 hours a week doing some online work!

I’m stoked… funny how in today’s paper they said that Unemployment has doubled in the last year but I just landed 3 jobs in the last few weeks!

Of course, I’ll still be blogging away like normal.  All of the posts you saw posted today… were actually posted last night or a few days ago.

Blogging only takes a few minutes a day… if done effectively.

I figured that if I save every penny I earn off my blog from now until the time my son is in college…  his tuition will be paid just from my blog revenues alone!!! HOW COOL IS THAT!

Thank you all for continuing to read my blog… and I will continue to bring the worlds most boring blog to you while I’m still working!

ESPN Talk Radio… My Interview Yesterday and The Kona Blog Up Today

Yesterday, I was interviewed by @joshontheradio of ESPN Talk Radio about the Blackballing of Bloggers incident by the Department of Works.

The interview should be available sometime today and I’ll post that when I get a chance and will only say that I talked about the incident and how I thought my name may have gotten involved. We also talked a bit about social media and the way things are pretty much behind the times here in Hawaii.

Today at 10:10 am, Aaron Stene of the Kona Blog will be on the show. I’m sure he will be giving his two cents about the incident.

His interview will probably be much more exciting then mine was as I believe he was probably more of a target for this incident then I ever could be… and he is still having problems receiving information from them currently.

You can check out the show on the radio at 10:10 in the morning on  850 AM (Hilo) 790 AM (Kona).

Today: “Da Orange Morning Show” on UHH Streaming Radio From 8 am – 10 am

If you haven’t checked out the BKNYKANAKA’s “Da Orange Morning Show on UH Hilo’s Radio Station, now is your chance to check it out live.

Oh yeah… BKNYKANAKA is RJ Mendoza over there on my ‘Roll, and I gather BKNYKANAKA stands for Brooklyn New York Kanaka.

He’s a pretty outspoken guy on his blog to say the least, and listening to his radio show a couple weeks, he doesn’t hold back much there either.

You can listen to it live on the internet by clicking HERE or if you’re still living on the low speed end of things you can click here.
