EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 Progress Report Now Available Online

Media Release

EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025 (EDH 2025) represents a grassroots visioning process that inspired a community.  Citizens in Hilo came together to form collaborative partnerships, and through that process, fostered local capacity that ensures Downtown Hilo will always be the special place that it is today.  The result was EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025: A Community-Based Vision and Living Action Plan, which the Hawai’i County Council adopted by Resolution 192 in November 2005 as a guide for planning in Downtown Hilo.

The EDH 2025 VisionKeepers are the committee which formed in January 2006 to oversee the implementation process for EnVision Downtown Hilo 2025, and to partner with the County of Hawai’i Planning Department to pilot creative community planning.

In December 2008 the EDH 2025 VisionKeepers produced the EDH 2025Progress Report: July 2007 – December 2008. The Progress Report details the status of the Living Action Plan, which is now three years into the implementation phase.  Initiated actions are listed within each of the six Focus Areas of the Plan. It is exciting to see the progress being made towards fruition of the community’s Vision for 2025!  We especially recognize our Lead Solution Partners who implement actions in the Plan. Lead Solution Partners are organizations or agencies who take the lead role for achieving an action.  Lead partnerships are often shared between a government agency and a community group.

In addition, the report evaluates the VisionKeepers using our core values and annual goals as performance measures. The mission of the VisionKeepers is to energize, guide, inspire, and strengthen partnerships within the community to implement the Plan. According the Chair of the VisionKeepers, Ms. Eileen O’Hara, important progress has been made towards “strengthening relationships with Lead Solution Partners and building local leadership capacity,” two points that are fundamental to implementing a community-based plan like EDH 2025.

A special section of the report features highlights from the past eighteen months, which includes the successful 2nd EDH 2025 Town Meeting, the publication of the VisionKeepers Guide to Implementing Your Community Plan, which was released in April 2008, and the production of the Revised Action Plan Matrix, which will be reviewed by the community in the coming year.
