28 Year Old Pahoa Man Killed in Kahakai Blvd. Crash

The Kahakai Intersection on H-130 is one of the most complained about spots on H-130.  I just heard about this accident.  I hope I don’t know who the victim is:

Speed and alcohol were likely factors in a head-on crash that killed a 28-year-old Pahoa man yesterday on the Big Island, police said.

The man was driving a 2003 Mazda sedan on Kahakai Boulevard in Hawaiian Beaches when he crossed the centerline and hit an oncoming 2008 Mazda multipurpose vehicle at about 4 a.m., police said. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The other driver, a 30-year-old Pahoa man, was treated for minor injuries.

The man was pronounced dead at 6:14 a.m. at the Hilo Medical Center. His name was withheld, pending notification of relatives.

It was the Big Island’s 23rd traffic fatality, compared with 34 at this time last year.
