Who I publicly Endorse…

I’ve been asked who do I endorse on a few candidates.

I think we are blessed to have so many great candidates running.

I will only endorse Angel Pilago for Mayor… and Patrick Walsh for BOE position.

Other candidates know who I am voting for behind the curtains.

It is great that so many people are now starting to get involved locally.

HSTA in Negotiations With BOE…but Doesn’t Want to Piss off a Member? That’s What BOE Candidate Walsh Says

I received the following comment from Board of Education Candidate Patrick Walsh:

…The HSTA union only interviewed the incumbent and myself. I am not clear as to why they did not consider the other two challengers. After a two week delay it was decided that they would wait until after the primary to announce their endorsement . I questioned the HSTA and was told that they were in negotiations with the BoE and they didn’t want to further upset a “certain member”

I’m curious about these negotiations, as well as why the HSTA would be focusing their attention to a “Certain Member”..

If Mr. Walsh truly wants to expand on this… I hope he will, as he is advocating for open government and he can prove that right here by expanding on what he knows about this situation.

I don’t like posting stuff that I can’t really verify… So I hope Mr. Walsh will at least expand upon which “Certain Member” and what exactly they may be in negotiations about.

MSN Money: Bank of Hawaii One of the Safest

This is good to know:

As bank failures mount and fear rises, the result will be a rush away from smaller banks toward ones that the government deems too big to fail. But since that will be a crowded trek, I checked in with analyst Whalen for a list of banks he considers the most stable and best of breed. His favorites:

  • Northern Trust
  • US Bancorp
  • Washington Federal
  • Charles Schwab Bank
  • Bank of Hawaii based in Honolulu, sports a return on equity of 26% and is a full standard deviation above its peers in funding its loans. With just a 0.46% charge-off rate and high average maturity of its loans, Whalen thinks it has done a beautiful job in a tough environment.

Something that PISSES ME OFF!

I know doctors have a hard time making ends meet here in Hawaii, I just wish they would inform their patients of their intent to close their practice and/or move to the mainland.

This is the second time this has happened to me.

On Oahu, I was seeing a dentist for about 6 years, one day I get a call from “His” office reminding me of my check up the next day.  I go into the office, check in and wait… a new dentist comes out to inform me that my previous dentist has sold his practice to this new dentist.

I go on with my check-up and I just don’t get a good vibe from this dentist, however, I felt compelled to stay with him just to give him a chance.  The first time he did something other then a check-up, I believe it was fill a cavity… I just hated him… he was terrible.  I then went on a quest to find a new dentist.

Now that I have moved back to the Big Island, I love my current dentist.

Here’s my second story, though and it just happened today.  Last week we get a call from my child’s pediatrician reminding us of his 4 year check-up…  I arrive at the office today… Same thing happened, my son’s pediatrician just up and left for Colorado and sold her practice to a new guy.  We really liked this previous pediatrician and now this new doctor comes in with no knowledge of my childs background and it’s like starting from ground zero again.  (At least this new pediatrician is better then the Dentist I had on Oahu)

I just don’t think it’s very acceptable for doctors to just up and leave their patients like this, and it PISSES ME OFF!

Dwarf Planet Gets Hawaiian Name: Haumea

After years of dispute, the last unnamed dwarf planet in the solar system has finally gotten a name. It will be called Haumea, after the goddess of childbirth and fertility in Hawaiian mythology…

Wall Street Turns Around… We Can All Breathe a Sigh of Relief

Wall Street rallied in a stunning late-session turnaround Thursday, shooting higher and hurtling the Dow Jones industrials up 400 points following a report that the federal government might create an entity to absorb banks’ bad debt. The report also cooled investors’ fervor for the safest types of investments like government debt…

Cardiologist Responds to “A health care epidemic is wiping out the native population…”

Last night I wrote a blog about a Cardiologist that is on assignment here.

This is an email he just sent me:

Hello, Damon. i am the author of the blog you commented on. i tried to send you a comment but dont think it went through. at the risk of repeating myself: i am sorry this struck a nerve for you . i have been here a week and see the carnage around me. this was supposed to be a lament about the situation. i wish i could find the cultural key that would turn people around. as someone who has spent his career doing preventative medicine, this tragedy is depressing. tom sbarra

It is a touchy subject, I just felt your article was pretty harsh in general.  I understand the truth hurts, however, sensitivity in a public paper towards the people of “Polynesia” probably wouldn’t have made the article touch a nerve the way it did.

Keep up the continued good work and I hope you find a solution to this problem.

Cameras Being Installed on Highway 130

I just noticed that they are installing a traffic camera on one of the lights at the Highway 130 and Pahoa Highschool interesection.

Being that it’s a State highway, I wonder if it will be linked to this site.

“Bra Boy” Abberton Seaking Plead: I’ll Pick Up Garbage In Hawaii

Yesterday I blogged about “Bra Boy” Abbertons pending Honolulu court appearance.

Well it looks like he may get his plea agreement after all.

BAD boy surf gang leader Koby Abberton could avoid US jail time for assaulting a policeman and be punished instead by picking up rubbish in a Hawaiian park…

…The push to settle came after Abberton declared his innocence and claimed he was the victim of mistaken identity…

…The Honolulu Prosecuting Attorney’s Department dismissed the claim Abberton had been incorrectly identified as the man who assaulted off-duty harbour police officer Richard Puu, who stepped in to break up a fight.

The department’s Jim Fulton said yesterday a plea deal had not yet been reached.

“There are still discussions but there’s no final plea agreement in place yet…”

Sick Giraffe on My Hands

I hate the defenseless feeling I get when my son catches a cold.

As a parent, there is nothing that you hate seeing more, then seeing your child sick.

I wish I could just wave a magic wand and transfer his sickness to me.

Oh well, I’ll make the best of today with him and hopefully he will be feeling better tomorrow.
