A 60 year old Australian man has been sentenced to jail in Thailand for the murder of an American tourist in March.

The provincial court in the northern Thai town of Chiang Mai has ordered William Thomas Douglas to serve two years and nine months in prison for the murder of Gary Poretsky from Hawaii.

The court initially imposed a longer sentence, but reduced it after Douglas confessed.

The court also determined that the shooting was not premeditated.

  1. I am Gary Poretsky’s mother and would like to ask anyone who reads this blog to write to their senators and representatives asking if they can help in keeping
    this murderer behind bars. There
    have been indications of payoffs
in this trial. Help me and my family have some closure knowing that this man will not be out on the streets in less than 2 years and 9 months.

Damon – I feel for you as a parent myself. I hope your able to get some closure.
